This is very good! I love the image, but, you did a great job explaining things. You were very thorough!
There is another way to do Step 12, that I know about. Before you flatten the image, instead, hit 'Control'+'Alt'+'Shift'+'E' (PC); Command-Option-Shift-E (Mac). This will create a flattened comp of all the layers while leaving all the layers intact beneath it. You have to select the top-most layer to use this shortcut. Also, you must have at least 2 layers, even if one is blank. This also comes in handy when you want to use multiple layer effects, where they cannot be all done in one layer.
I'm off to try this one out! You have inspired me! Thank you!!

This is a cool image. The only issue I have with it is that the lighting is wrong - the light source is behind the castle - but the castle is clearly lit from the left, not behind. When I put my images together, I am always trying to ensure the lighting is always consistent. Other that that, I really like the final result.

Great tutorial, but is there just a mistake with the numbers or is step 10 missing?

Anyway, ever thought about writing a workshop for Advanced Photoshop? I think I could hint my colleagues in the UK to your profile, if you'd like to do one...

AP-Editor In reply to AP-Editor [2008-12-25 23:08:03 +0000 UTC]

...or you could of course write one for our German version...

Alegion In reply to AP-Editor [2008-12-25 23:47:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for catching that! Just the numbering was off is all. Sure I could do a tutorial for Advanced Photoshop Magazine... since it is one of my fav mags. UK or Germany or both! Great way to build up my portfolio.

Cool, send me a mail to wmmueller@advanced-photoshop.de, so we can discuss the details. I won't be in the office till Jan. 5th, though.
Once I'm back in the office, I'll also give my colleagues in the UK a call...

Wonderful! Is there anything in the tutorial you did not understand/ confused or anything I could improve on. I never did anything like this so any input to improve my tutorials would be great!

I couldn't get the "Download" on this to work. Could you please repost it or send it to me via email or note?

Alegion In reply to ArtByKassie [2008-12-25 01:07:59 +0000 UTC]

People are downloading it fine. Do you have Adobe Reader? Try loading that. I provided a link to it in the comments.

Yes, I have the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Premium package. It's only downloading partial and giving 2 error messages. I've screen printed them and I'll send them in a note so you can see what it's doing.

I downgraded the adobe acrobat reader compatibility from version 8 to 5. Hope that fixes your problem.
