This species is personally one of my favorites.

The Dur'ran are best described as terrestrial cephalopods with some internal skeletal structure. They were once a fully aquatic sentient species but evolved to survive in arid environments when their planet's oceans evaporated. There is significant sexual dimorphism between the male and females. The males are fully mobile with two shell-encased legs and five tentacles ending in four fingered hands. The females are larger but much slower with the central tentacle acting as a singular leg for shuffling across the ground and the remain four freed for environmental manipulation. What would have been legs in the males are colorful "fans" that are more of a sign of beauty in the females. The Dur'ran live in a Matriarchal where the females fill the roles of leadership, diplomates, and priestesses (some males are also priests) while the males, who make of the majority of the population, occupy all other roles of society. This system has, for the most part, maintained peace among the Dur'ran though select males are trained as fighters and assassins when needed. As a species the Dur'ran are a very spiritual people with much of their spirituality tied to lost oceans they once inhabited.
