I've never had a doll with buttons for eyes...I wasn't really a doll kid..but the ones I did have were either barbies or dolls with embroidered eyes.
The story about your doll..that's really kinda creepy o__O;; My initial thought was "omg she escaped out the window because a fairy came and gave her real eyes and so she left her button eyes and then she jumped out omg" XD It made me think of the Velveteen Rabbit.
