Description
Memory.by Alisea Zenk
I started and opened my eyes to fill them with something else. The images from my dream still seemed to burn in my retina. I brought my hand up to my temple and rubbed at my ocular implant as though it might relieve the headache that afflicted me.
I was in the fields of my homeworld, Din'cra, with my parents when Their ships brought the shadow. I had been playing with my dog, Amiel, while my mother and father worked with the harvesters that tday and was befuddled by the sudden lack of sunlight. Amiel whined and fled, he was one of the lucky ones.
I looked about, all the adults were hurriedly leaving the harvest equipment and the first screams broke loose as panic took hold.
"Alaya!" I heard my mother's voice, but I could not see her amongst all the people rushing by, staring up in terror as they ran. Gooseflesh crept its way up my arms and I finally looked skywards.
A huge black cube hung in the air, small black dots flying out and to the city. Smoke began to rise from the formerly picturesque silver spirals that reached for the cloudless sky. Several dots broke off and came toward the rural district. I was alone in the field, now, the line of people frantically running were nearly hundreds of meters away and were cut off by the advancing machines.
Suddenly, a large shuttle that had been an insignificant "dot" just moments before crashed down mere meters away from me.
All I could do was watch, frozen, as machines trooped out.
As they advance, I saw pallid flesh amidst the gears, machinery and lights; genderless, emotionless eyes looked down at me.
"You will be assimilated." One of them said, its extended machine black arm reached to me and pierced the soft flesh of my scrawny little neck.
Plasma seemed to course through my body for a moment, I lost all control of my limbs and they took me to my future, my destiny.
Perfection.
