Id like to tech you a little about the mechanics that cause thee phenomenons your thoughts are about. Ive found myself that basic knowlage in optics help alot when drawing.
Blue and violet light spread bend more in dense mediums then other lights, because of its low wavelength, as seen in this picture [link] . Because of the blue lights ability to spread in air, all indirect light tend to be bluer then its source; thus cooler.
Needless to say, most lightsources (the sun for one) are yellow-orange in colour, and therefor light and shadow are often of opposite colour.
