PteraRanger's Medal/Symbol here, and it's pink for the only girl in the team. Stereotypes! Though I was never 100% if this was a Pteranodon or a Pterodactyl, I believe the former in ZyuRanger, and the latter in Mighty Morphin'.Pink Power!

Pteranodon actually.
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers said Pterodactyl, but they were looking at the Zord. The crest on the Zord isn't as distinct.

Besides that, the Zord does have a crest. It's just it doesn't protrude as much so that the head can tuck in and its easy to think it's not there at all.
They changed Pteranodon to Pterodactyl and Mammoth to Mastodon because they were looking at the mecha. Pteranodon's crest is hard to see, and Zyumammoth has an indent that makes it look like it has a two-dome skull (which is one of the obvious distinctions visually between a mammoth and a mastodon). It's a lot more clear what they're supposed to be if you look at the puppets, but MMPR naturally gave those minimal screentime. Zyuranger got away with them, but MMPR hit the airwaves in the wake of Jurassic Park, so...

Well,Β a commonΒ issue with Pteranodon and crests is Β that most models focus on male Pteranodons. I think there is not a single toy of a female one released. And ZyuMammoth clearly has a build closer to a mammoth and than a mastodon. Anyways, I think it is just a case of Saban not caring.

Well you might be right about that in the case of Pteranodon insofar as it being likely that as is often the case Pterodactyl was chosen instead because of that name being deemed cooler-sounding. ZyuMammoth... has a build more like a tank than quite like either extinct furry pachyderm.
Of course, it's not like [i]Toei[/i] cared too much about accuracy here, considering they lumped in ice-age creatures with dinosaurs

ZyuMammoth is still a Mecha, so it is not entire acccurate, but more of a mammoth than a mastodon.
Yeah, the mammals suck. Maybe should have gone for Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus instead. Or some other Stock Dinosaurs instead of Stock Prehsitoric Mammals.
