Description
UTA SSRUnited Terran Alliance Standard Small Rifle
The UTA: SSR is constructed to be used by all UTA soldiers. However it is rarelly dstributed ammongst soldiers that use armor that is classified as medium and up. The rifle itselfis designed for planetarial missions, but it is fully operational in zero gravity. The rifle was aprooved by the UTA in 2630, and has been in service for 5 years, with slight modifications each year.
The rifle has two totally different modes. The primary mode is the use of normal solid projectiles. The projectile can be changed all depending on the different tasks the soldier has ahead, but the normal projectile used are 5.0 x 15.5 mm of caseless ammo. The rifle can fire theese projectles 5 times a second, and the normal range of capasaty for a magazine is 110. The secondary mode is a pulse plasma powered (3p) cannon. It fires solid projectiles that are heated up near the exit by lases to reach ultra hot levels. The result is a flying projectile of hot plasma. The speed combined with the nature of the projectile makes this a very effective weapon against almost everything. The 3p mode is charged by a large battery mounted in the back of the rifle. Each projectiles magazine measurements are 9.0 x 50.5 mm. The normal capacaty of a magazine is 25.
The targeting system is all digital. A camera is mounted in the front, and it gives a 15x image (adjustable within the HUD) of where you are pointing the gun. The camera is connected to the soldiers HUD.
Measurements:
Lenght: 1205 mm
Barrel: 1000 mm
Weight: 3500 grams
Caliber:
-5.0 x 15.5 mm
-9.0 x 50.5 mm
Operation: Short Recoil, Automatic
Magazine capacity:
-110 (5.0x15.5)
-25 (9.0x50.5)
Max Effective Range: 1750 meters (Earth gravty)
Sights: 15X Digital
Note: On already attached sight module, others are optionable.
First apperance in novel:
Chapter 4; James grabs gun from UTA trooper chasing him:
A grenade flew through the air and in to the elevator. The doors of the elevator closed and an explosion followed. Within the explosion James used the little time he knew he would get to run from his cover and out to the sub city middle pathway. As he got out from the cover a trooper saw him and so he started to fire. No matter how advanced targeting systems was nobody hit James. He took the opportunity to jump kick one of the troopers and grab his gun mid air. Then he forced his way further out in the pathway.
There you have it. The gun that is issued to every light armored soldiers in the UTA. The old design I didn't like, and with some inspiration from a very talented *Bonez18B I was able to make a totally new design on the gun. I think the next step will be making it more futuristic like.

Awesome. Not only is it a great drawing youve got caliber and other stats with it to match. Most impressive. Theres a fragment of a firearm that I really like but I want to see it in this kind of format. Think you can help me out?

Hey, backup irons. +50 cool points just for that.
Nitpick: recoil operation? Why not gas op? It's generally more reliable, saves weight, and (somewhat important with a combat weapon) is not reliant on the barrel and bolt group being able to move.

It looks great, but the fore-section of the barrel seems to have some pencilling mistake. To be quite frank, there's been little improvement in shaping (squares abound) and the technique hasnt quite advanced.

Thanks for the comment. But 'Squares abound'. That one catched my eye.
I do not know what you looked at when you stated the "little improvement in shaping (squares abound)" But the original design ( [link] ) had squares abound. The new one compared to that, has not. When I look at the new one, I see next to no squares. Maybe you do mean the general "square" design of the different parts? In that case, making them round or triangle would destroy the general purpose of the gun... shooting stuff with it.
Truly the design of guns is a matter of personal preferences. In this case, its not only that, its the practical value of the gun, as well as the psychological part of the gun. By practical, its nice to hold a gun with straight edges, its easy to pack, does not take as much space as you would think. Its easy to dissasemble if you have to. In the psychological context, it looks scarier, its more simple to aim with it (and that falls under practical as well). Then comes all the machinery... Sure, the gun could have just the fireing mechanism and the barrel... But that would just make it a gun... not a UTA: SSR.
About the 'technique has not quite advanced' (Im assuming you mean shading)... I know it has not, but does it have to?
Please... fill me in.

Regarding the technique improvement, it's really up to you if you want to improve on it. I think there's room for it, and it'd be to your advantage if it did improve.
What I meant about the 'squares abound' wasnt the 2d look of the gun alone - it's also the 3d that i try to visualize when i look at the UTA:SSR. I do recognize that it may be your preference to make squarish heavy metal weaponry, but it couldnt hurt if there would be innovation when it comes to weapon shapes and component designs. I myself prefer to draw smooth, sleek weapons that scream out 'deadly'.
BTW, I remember you as the guy who once posted at [link] . If you need ideas, the multiverse still has loads of content yet to be pencilled.

Funny you should mention it. Originally, it was not. It was just some random story I had written a short draft about. Then a friend of mine and I created a personal RPG universe out of it. And then we kinda got tired of doing so... But Ikept some of the elements from that RPG (such as the different races), and I decided to write it down in a more serious matter.

you NEVER cease to amuse me :\. that is so way awsome x.x i can't imagen how you got that good with drawing such things. practice yes, but it would seem to take 30 years at least to get that good o_O! and the shading. *sigh and shakes her head* i think it was a real picture on preview, but soon remembered that your just to good in the object department D:!
