Found this interesting. During the winter the horses eat the bark off of all the white oaks. This kills the tree. Yet we fenced the horses out of this group of trees and the trees are scarring and attempting to recover. Pretty amazing how resilient nature is.

so true, once i saw a tree that was in a land slide and it was still in the earth on a cliff bun horizontal and it grew verticle look like a capital L

Wow, nature is resilient. It is pretty amazing where life manages to find a way. We have a whole wood full of trees with these scars and as long as the damage was only over half the trunk they are still alive and they are beginning to heal.
