Description This is bantha fodder from my Star wars RPG campaign. I designed it with influences from B-Wing & Ebon Hawk from KOTOR series

On the outside it seems Like a total junk. worth only to be bantha fodder. Yet Like all good ships it packs a good punch underneath. That's where the name comes from.

It's similar in design to a B-Wing which I think is one of the coolest looking ships in Star Wars. Is that where you got the inspiration for its design?

It is inspired from B wing and ebon hawk from KotOR Series as well as Exar Kun s ship from Tales of the Jedi

Same here. People are more fond of sleek fighters & big cruisers or gunships nowadays. But I love the fringer life-style and have most fun designing them

Thank you, Quite a compliment coming from a skilled artist such as yourself. Unfortunately, I do not have the skills with 3D modeling programs to model it in 3D or build a live model myself, but I certainly would like to have it modeled in some way. Thanks again for the kind words.

Yes, the influences are pretty obvious yet some deviants also commented that it also looked like freighter twilight from clone wars. I did not notice the resemblence until they mentioned. Yet I hadn't seen that ship yet when I first designed it. The interior design is all different from them as well [link] & [link]

Interesting design, and I saw the D6 stats for it which is fantastic.

Wish I could find a group that plays that still.

AltugBulca In reply to LoneStranger [2011-12-08 08:06:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Actually we ancient people still do play WEG D6. (In our opinion it is still the only way to play SW RPG)
My group has been playing the game for the past 15 yrs. (one character is even still playing the same character for the whole time. you can find their sketches in my deviations portfolio) We're all married and our wives still can not figure out why grown men over 30 yrs old are still pretending to be in a galaxy far far away...

LoneStranger In reply to AltugBulca [2011-12-10 09:16:31 +0000 UTC]

I gotta admit I do miss being able to play D6 Star Wars. At this point I'd have to run a game to see anything being done with D6. And I knew a couple of people who did the same thing with having one main character in their system (wasn't WEG but still the same concept).

As for the wives someone in your group should mebbe run a session for them, let them see what it's like and go from there.

On a side note, have you seen that Fantasy Flight Gaming has the rights now? I think they'll treat the property well and my proof is based in four books called Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, and Black Crusade. It's roleplaying in the Warhammer 40K universe and it's pretty well done I think.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AltugBulca In reply to LoneStranger [2011-12-10 12:00:28 +0000 UTC]

I sure hope so after the WoTC disaster they tried to feed us. But to be frank no matter how good it is, I would not change my system because I have all the WEG books published (including Adv. Journals) & all my adventures are set in Original Trilogy or Bantam novels timeline afterwards. I think whoever takes the franchise will focus more on Prequel Trilogy & Clone Wars Cartoon (Which is overabused & overmilked in my opinion), I am 32 & I still think About OT when I think of SW.

I would gladly play a W40K campaign in a good system though.

About your comment on the wives. Been there, done that. Their dread at the table when they see the men they married became 15 yr olds again was priceless (yet costly afterwards)in short it did not work! thanks for caring

It helps that all the prequels and KoToR and the like are probably being converted on the holocron [link] I've found that running a decent campaign isn't about the time frame it's run in but that's just me.

As for the 40K games, the system Fantasy Flight is using is a good one. It's based on 2nd ed Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play which is an excellent system. It's percentile based where your career determines what you get.

Oops oh well, at least they should be happy that you guys are having fun.

AltugBulca In reply to LoneStranger [2011-12-12 12:41:04 +0000 UTC]

I definately agree that a good campaign is always a pleasure to adventure in regardless of timeframe although one can still have favourite concept, timelines or geography to play in

Although I was aware of a few D6 sites I was not aware of the existence of the holocron for the past 16 yrs. we've been playing the game. Thanks for waking me up?

Nice It does resemble both the B-wing and the Twilight from Clone Wars. Your detail work is also reminiscent of McQuarrie's way of drawing small parts. If you could make it look like a sketch I'm sure one could mistake it for old SW concept art.

I did not realize the resemblance until you mentioned. Nevertheless my primary inspiration came from earlier designs

-the folded wing from b wing
-cockpit and the main body ebon hawk from KOTOR series
-single engine attached to the wing. x wing s-foil
-far stabilizer is scavanged from a tie fighter

you have a good eye though

Awesome. I've never actually RPed myself more than a couple of runthroughs with my more experienced friends, but I have studied the SW Ships book. Though its D20 and Wizards of the Coast...whatever that really means.

I like how you didn't give your ship a full on .5x hyperdrive. Makes it a bit more realistic. And I really like how you listed what modifications you added, thats the best part. Did you use a RP book for that, or did you use something like the Wookieepedia to figure that all out.
May not be quite as good as the Falcon, but just as ramshackle as it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AltugBulca In reply to shortsonfire79 [2011-06-03 21:17:29 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely one hell of a bolt bucket that ship is. Actually in my RP campaign her designer "Doc" is one of the characters in Mr. Brian Daley's Han Solo novel trilogy. In the novels He was the chief engineer that made the first major modifications to the Falcon. I my campaign My ship was his previous work, a test bed & prototype for many modifications he made on the Falcon afterwards. the major difference between two ships is mine was designed and built from scratch as an amalgam of many ships where as M.falcon is a heavily modified CEC YT-1300 which is a known model in SW universe. (not that mine was shy of modifications as you have realised yourself)

As for modifications details (names & models etc.)Of course wookiepedia was a great help as well as SW incredible cross sections books (I own all of the published versions) But what I recommend is the novel "Millenium falcon" which was a great resource.

By the way in a few days I will post a deviation called "Alderaan" A privateer Nebulon-B frigate that played a prominent role in my campaign (a shame it was destroyed in a game session )

shortsonfire79 In reply to AltugBulca [2011-06-05 10:51:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see. Thats awesome. Your background for it is awesome. Would you happen to have anymore? (just of Bantha Fodder though). Can't wait to see Alderaan, that sounds cool. Any neat alterations to that? Like the Nebulon-B2 or something?

I too have all the cross section books, fantastic pieces they are. I started "Millennium Falcon" a long time ago, but never got around to finishing it. Picked it up the other day though, after seeing Bantha Fodder

My ship is also an amalgam of a couple ships. A YT-1300 with a centralized cockpit, extra cargo pods and B-Wing pieces. Though, I haven't gone as extensively into the details as you have. I may have to do that soon though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AltugBulca In reply to shortsonfire79 [2011-06-05 12:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Thnx. Alderaan is basically a standard Nebulon-B with a few modifications towards working behind the enemy lines like improved sensor suite and matte black coating es sensor mask for whole ship to deflect sensor readings. Its main mission was creating chaos & upheaval behind enemy lines in core worlds. after civil war it was reconfigured as a S&R, Recon mission profile. it has 2 squadrons of Star fighters on board (another modifcation regarding hangar space)

I am glad my art inspired someone to do smth. it is a great honor.

My first try at drawing my mind was a disaster compared to the Fodder. My advice is to take the hard road and try it. even if you fail at first time, (I have. Numerous times) eventually you will succeed if you really want. No pain no gain my friend I would certainly like to see your work and give a few pointers. (No judging though, promise )

I can almost visualise your ship. Anoher advice. Name your ship if you alreay have not. It gives a certain identity both to ship and your art. Guaranteed.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shortsonfire79 In reply to AltugBulca [2011-06-06 09:23:07 +0000 UTC]

Awesome. Just saw the Alderaan. Very nice. Recon missions are the best. How big is a squadron?

Not only your art has inspired me, but also your fantastic words of advice!

Gave it a shot. Just like you recommended. Though I've started small, and gone for a 2D view. XD I'd love to share, but I feel like we should move this conversation to one of our 'walls' as to not clog up Bantha Fodder's comment section. Pointers would be fantastic!
Also, not sure if I wish to add the B-wing anymore. It'd look too much like yours! (And slightly 'off' since the B-wing's main foil is considerably smaller than a YT-1300. Though I think I may have some other ideas up my sleeve. I choose to not name my ships before they're complete, as I usually end up finding that they do not fit the ship at the end, and I usually end up wanting to change it. Though I'll start brainstorming and seeing what I can come up with!
