ZSNES is ancient and effectively dead, there are far better options now. You should really consider switching to snes9x (github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x) or bsnes, now higan (byuu.org/) .

really? I know zsnes isn't being updated any more but it still is a worthy emulator and runs nice on all the machine's i've used it on.  I've tried snes9x before but I never used it that much, always preferred zsnes cuz back in the days i had trouble running snes9x on my compaq, 512MHz (I think that's what is was) lol. and back then I played SO (star ocean) and ToP (ToP) on zsnes when they came out with the decompression features. I'll give bsnes a try since I'm running Ubuntu.

You still play snes ROMs?

Yeah, zsnes once was far better than snes9x. Both developments have stopped though, only snes9x was picked back up and became snes9x-gtk, I used it for a while. It seems the project is once again named snes9x now though.

I still play SNES ROMs and use only higan now, successor to bsnes (I'm packaging it for Arch Linux). I don't know how ubuntu packages it, but it comes with 3 builds, performance, balanced and accuracy: accuracy will run exactly like the hardware but requires a fairly powerful CPU, the other 2 builds contain some hacks which makes it less power-hungry but will make some games render some stuff incorrectly (those are only a few and aren't fairly popular games anyway). Mind you, those hacks are on by default on all other emulators out there which is why they all run more or less fast.

yeah love retro games. I use zsnes for windows cuz my pc old and it's the fastest for me on windows but i'll try higan for ubuntu when i get a chance and see how that works out for me.
