Description
Originally known as the colourfully attired gunfighter called the Calico Kid, Rex Fury eventually became a the Federal Marshall.Β However, he soon realized that there were some situations that the law couldn't deal with, so he created a masked identity to deal with them. As the Eerie Rider, he defeated many outlaws, as well as stranger threats, such as a murderer who disguised himself as the Frankenstein's Monster and the Harpy, a female circus aerialist who used wings to glide.
The Eerie Rider's costume was coated with phosphorus that enabled it to glow in the dark. The inside of the cape was black, which he could wrap around himself to make it look like his head was floating. He also used a black lariat and a black bullwhip as well as a couple of pistols. His white horse Spectre was also coated with phosphorus.
The Eerie Rider is based of the original version of the Ghost Rider, which is in public domain pdsh.fandom.com/wiki/Ghost_Rid⦠He first appeared in Tim Holt #6 (1949). published by Magazine Enterprises, and created by Ray Krank and Dick Ayers. In the Sixties, when Ayers was working for Marvel, he reused the character, only changing his real name to Carter Slade (possibly so he wouldn't get confused with Nick Fury). AC Comics has also used the original version, changing the name to the Haunted Horseman.
