If you have no sense for anatomy, perspective and posing characters, then no matter how many stickfigures and lineart layers you make, the final result will come out wonky. That's it.

Hahah, I changed his facial expression a bit, it was different on the initial sketch. But the final version is better.
I had fun with drawing their hair and clothes, even though I'm usually bad at drawing dynamic stuff and folds.

Anatomy isn't easy at all believe me I've been studying it for a few months and i feel like i still don't know anything XD nah but seriously, I think you did a great job! I like the perspective and the poses, and young Gil is just adorable >.<

I actually drew this for a contest on tumblr and I wasn't sure whether to enter or not at first, but I got so much positive feedback I'm not regretting entering. Plus it was also a great excuse to draw the two Gils together.
No worries, I haven't been posting that much either. I've been unhappy about my art for a long time (and I still am), but I decided to stop being stressed about such stupid things and draw stuff anyway. It makes me happy and gives me some kind of satisfaction.

As for being unhappy with certain skills, I think it is a love-hate relationship when we have been doing something for quite a while. Here is an interesting concept: one of my music teachers told me that the more you practice and improve, the more you are aware of your flaws. But flaws are your best teachers and they will guide or push you towards the direction you should go, which is unique to each individual. I still struggle with this concept, but it is surprisingly true. It is an ongoing battle, Hon, but keep pressing on as long as you still have the desire and ability to draw. You just might miss it one day when you cannot draw any longer.

Yes, this is true. It's the same with art. The more you know about drawing, the more you are aware of the flaws you make. Maybe the day when I no longer feel the desire to draw will eventually come, but that day still hasn't come yet.

I always like seeing fanart of Gil. The anatomy and perspective looks fine to me. And I also like the poses, as well as the blue tones you colored with, the clothing folds on young gil's outfit, and how complete the picture looks.
