Description
You've been at this all day, Chryseis. I can't believe you're still practicing. Please come inside so we can talk for a bit.Just a few more rounds, Pyrrah. I have to be at my absolute best for tomorrow! The Archery Tournament begins in the morning and I mean to win it! While you are cheering me on from the grandstand, I'll be taking some of the most important shots of my life!
Everything has been happening so quickly, and we really haven't had the opportunity to discuss our alternatives.
What is there to discuss?
Well, for example... It's not too late for you to back out of the Tournament. We could just go dragon hunting and skip the entire affair! Or we could both stay home and I could make it worth your while!
Mmmm... that does sound tempting, but you know how much I want this, my love. You've had many adventures abroad and now it's my turn. I'm a War Archer and I'm the best shot on the Amazon Isles. It's my duty to participate in the Tournament and it would be an honor to become the first Amazon Arrow.
This isn't just an archery competition, Chryseis. Being the Amazon Arrow will require much more than just archery skills. It's been over nine centuries since you've left the islands and Man's World has only grown more savage.
I have no fear of Man, Pyrrah... and need I remind you that I am no stranger to war.
This time is different! Those brutes are killing each other on a scale that you can't even begin to imagine! And if the First Ones' visions are true...
The First Ones only saw that Man would create an atomic weapon, not that they would actually use it.
If they make that bomb, it WILL be used! I can promise you that!
Not if I can stop it. As the Amazon Arrow, I will do everything in my power to prevent that from ever happening. I would rather die than to allow the deployment of that abomination!
That's exactly my point, Chryseis. What if an atomic bomb could turn the tide of the conflict? What if the entire war could be ended with a single nuclear strike?
Never! Pyrrah, what you are suggesting is madness! There has to be another way and I will find it.
This war IS madness, Chryseis! What if it has to be you that participates in the mission to drop that bomb? You have to be willing to do whatever it takes! The fate of the entire world is at stake!
You're worried that I can't handle the job?
I'm worried that becoming the Amazon Arrow will destroy you! Amazons have very long lives and I don't want yours to be tainted with guilt and regret! You shouldn't have to live with the memories of the tragedies that you will witness, or the horrors that you may have to unleash.
But don't you see? I will show them a better way... the Amazon way! I will teach the world of Man how to fight with honor!
Only if you win the tournament ...Only if you become the Amazon Arrow.
Ha! Who could prevent it? Aella is an excellent shot, but she is no warrior. I have personally trained every other archeress in the Tournament and none of them are a match for me. This is my dream, Pyrrah, and there is no one that could possibly stand in my way.
You may be right, my beloved... Or you may be faced with more competition tomorrow than you realize...

wow such a nice piece, the both of them look so sexy....... okay so pervertedness aside this is very emotionally heavy, i take it this is WAY before Pyrrah went all psycho and crazy and corrupted, and stuff.
And here, she looks like a super concerned wife worried about her lover. She must have really cared, and it makes it sad how things turned out later. anyway good job.

Hey, are you trying to turn me into a Pyrrah-maniac? She's become a likeable lycan. Or, pre-lycan, in this case.
Great image. As always, everyone's expression is perfect. And who doesn't love all that underboob glory? And then you throw in so much depth of character it threatens to drown us in its glory.
Suffice to say I really enjoyed this image and accompanying text. Well done.

Thanks! I may have introduced her as a bad guy first, but I've said since the beginning that Pyrrah was the first AA and that she was a heroine throughout the 20th century. I've only been posting flashback images and examples of those events for the last few months. It's fun seeing everyone's reaction to seeing Pyrrah in a different and more complicated light.

Well, I think they're both possibly wrong. Aside from the Japanese campaign, WW2 had ended before Little Boy was dropped.
Also, horrific as killing some 200_000 with 2 weapons is, the best estimate of the death toll from having to invade the main Japanese archipelago that I've seen is over 2_000_000.

Wow! As a new kid on the block, I'm way behind on stories from so many different creators. Your story here seems really imaginative!
I see now that there is more to Amazon Arrow than just a pretty face and an attractive body to be put in peril. Looking forward to catching up and starting to really understand the character.
Thanks for sharing!

Always bad news when a couple doesn't share the same dream
In her own way, Pyrrah is being a hero by sacrificing herself to save Chryseis. But she should have explained herself instead of sneaking around. This is truly a huge moment in their story - nicely done

I don't think Pyrrah has committed to her decision just yet at this particular moment, but she knows that she won't be able to talk Chryseis out of participating in the Tournament. Pyrrah's explained her reasons for not wanting Chryseis to become the Amazon Arrow, but this is something that Chryseis has wanted for centuries.

I think you've hinted at or mentioned this twist in your big overall story before. This is aptly titled because I think so much of what follows with your characters happens because of this. There's a tragedy here too, with Pyrrah and Chryseis being happy lovers and later becoming bitter enemies.

This looks familiar I'm sure you were planning to do it anyway but it's really cool to see and read something that I was writing just a few weeks ago. That's very similar to how I imaginied it, Chrys hardly able to contain her excitement, Pyrrah trying to plant the idea in her head that she shouldn't go...I like both the dialogue and the image, both show their contrasting emotions really well. The next day will be painful for both of them in very different ways.

This is just a tease of a much larger story. I'm debating about whether or not I want to tell it here at DA in my usual style or to save it for a written "Amazon Arrow novel". I've always imagined that I would just write this story because so much of it is about what the two main characters (plus Aella) are thinking, but I don't see myself having the time to do that anytime soon. Not to mention that I have too many unfinished projects right now to start another.
I think that each of the Amazon Arrows are the right choice for their particular moment in time. As much as Chryseis wanted it in the 1940's and throughout the rest of the 20th Century, she just wasn't ready (and Pyrrah recognized that). Pyrrah was the better choice to carry that burden and to navigate those historical events. Chryseis is the right choice to deal with the more personal menace represented by the Lord of Lycans and Pyrrah and some of the other events that I have planned for the present time. And Aella represents the bright hope for a better future made possible by the sacrifices of her predecessors.

I know there's a lot going on here, but I'm disturbed that she just casually mentions dragon hunting! Not because dragons are dumb creatures that need protection but because they're actually as intelligent as people, self aware, and everything!
Also, you can't hold babies with nuclear arms or something... Give peas a chance.

Chryseis is not a fan of dragons. As I've mentioned before, the Amazons hunt them for sport and to keep their population down. The ancient ones are smart, but the young ones are just dangerous rodents.

And who knows... Chryseis might have prevented the dropping of the bomb and WWII might still be going on now if Pyrrah hadn't won that tournament. Perhaps it's a good thing that Pyrrah was AA at that time?

Atomic politics Amazon-style. Very deep discussion and it makes me think even more that what Pyrrah does, she does for Chryseis because Pyrrah is right that Chryseis will feel tainted with guilt and regret. It takes a strong person to do what I suspect Pyrrah is going to do (as you hinted but never confirmed with the 1942 timeline entry) -- ruin her love's chances to fulfill a goal, but, while she may have done it for her own glory, I prefer thinking she did it truly because she knew that she could do what she knew Chryseis couldn't do. The look on Pyrrah's face shows me just how torn she is, but that she's going to do what she thinks is right no matter what it may cost her.
Fantastic art and text

To some extent, everything that Pyrrah does is motivated by Chryseis and vice versa. Love can be brutal and leads both of them to do questionable things.

Chyseis is pretty stubborn, although most Amazon's seem to be like that. If Pyrrah had been more honest and mentioned that she would take part in the tournament too, perhaps she could change her partner's mind! Great image too, theri expressions show they way they feel just perfectly!

Well, that's the thing about prequel stories. You already know how they are going to end, and usually it's not a very good ending. The only thing we can hope for, is things getting better between them in another story. Also, all this dialogue about those particular historical events, is a little heavy.
