Description The world was ending. He just knew it. He wasn't sure how he knew it but there was no other explination for what he say before him. Darkness seemed to have set in even though only a second ago it was midday. Fires burned all around him, whole buildings engulfed, sending plums of smoke into the grey sky.

People scrambled around him, some screaming, others pulling children behind them in an attempt to escape something he could not see. He saw a face as one of them past him, it was the coffee guy he'd seen not even 10 minutes ago, only there was something different about him.

His attention was ripped away when a woman in the street screamed and fell to her knees. The sound of her voice did not reach his ears, in fact no noise seemed to touch him. He watched the woman turn on her back and cover her face in fear. He could see her mouth moving as if saying something but he didn't see what she said as he looked to see a large shadow engulf her.

He screamed out but his voice was dulled, as if talking through water. He watched in horror as this shapeless shadow passed over her and continued on; leaving her corpse, pale as a sheet lying in the street.

He couldn't believe what he just saw. What was this? What was that shadow? What had happened to the woman? Nothing made sense yet he somehow knew it was real. He felt it in his soul that somewhere sometime this was happening.

He looked around once again, his eyes jerking to every corner and ever point he could see. The coffee shop he had just come from, the pharamcy he'd been to as a kid, the book store his girlfriend had dragged him to. The fire hydrant he had tried to break in high school as a dare, the bus stop he sat at when he first ran from home, every thing was here. All of it from where he just was.

He had begun to breath hard as if breathing through his nose after running. His chest heaving as he looked around more and more, noticing the broken windows, blood splattered on a wall, people lying in alleys and the more he looked the worse his breathing got as if his lungs were pushing air out and not taking enough in.

Suddenly his breathing stopped, the air in and around him held in suspension. His eyes had caught a girl across the street standing as if the world couldn't touch her. Her short hair white as snow spoke loudly against the long black coat she wore. Her face was painted as the front of a skull, the teeth parted as she blew tendrils of smoke from her lips, the cigarette held lightly between her fingers. As the smoke rose away from her she turned toward him, when their eyes met a small smile crept upon her face.

He looked away when he heard a noise, his eyes brought back to where he had been before all that. His girlfriend was looking at him, worry on her face as she stepped towards him. He walked to her, smile on his face reassuring her he was fine, so they continued on.

He knew nothing of the world he had just seen and he would never remember what he saw. The world he saw was never meant to be witnessed, only those with an open mind could view it and even that isn't enough. The occurance happens when you least expect it and will never happen to the same person twice nor in the same spot twice. But nothing is ever set in stone is it?

The world was ending. She just knew it...
