amoniwolf as Sloan

AhikuWolf as Rafe

SloanSloan paced around the main densite, his pawsteps loud and leaving large indents in the winter's snow beneath him. His breath seemed to crystalize as soon as the warmth of it touched the freezing air, causing a cloud to form and fall to the ground like snow. He couldn't sleep anymore, not even for a moment. He never felt like eating, he couldn't feel even a small bit of happiness when he saw that his pack was safe.

Sloan decided to take a break and lay down, so he did. His legs seemed to collapse beneath him, forcing him to the ground. He then rested his head onto the surface of the piles of snow. Even if he seemed relaxed he was not. His watching eyes scanned the areas around him, his ears twitching to every noise that he could catch. He took in deep breaths through his nose to see if any danger or any stranger dare to come close.

I don't want anyone to be harmed, staying awake is my only option to protect them. He thought to himself and kept alert.

RafeRafe jumped through the snow with happiness. He rolled in snow and ice. Soon is fur looked more white than brown. He panted with a big smile and looked around. He saw a big male layed in the snow. Rafe grinned evily and sneaked slowly to the big guy, he tried to be quiet . When he was close enough, Rafe jumped on his back " ha ha, got you!" He laughed triumphantly. Snow covered sloans face and back. Rafe bite sloans back playfuly.

SloanSloan flicked his ear when he felt the impact of a smaller wolf upon his back, assuming it was a pup, he kept relaxed. When he heard it's voice he knew that his theory was correct, it was in fact a pup. Rafe. He lifted his head from the snow and nodded in response to Rafe's words,
"I heard you approaching, if you try to be sneaky, make less noise." Sloan advised, he kenw that Rafe had a long ways away from needing to learn it but he thought that it'd be best to teach him earlier.

He did not mind the tiny teeth of the pup to dig into his back, it didn't bother him as much as it should. Sloan kept an eye on the pup anyway, not for his own sake but for Rafe's sake. No one knew this but beneath the scary, stoic mask was a gentle wolf who loved to be around puppies and loved to raise them as his own. But unfortunately no one may ever see that side of him, not since it had gotten buried deeper and deeper with each nightmare he had.

RafeRafe looked at him" okay..." rafe smiled. " can we go for for a hunt, pleeeease?~" He made the famous Puppy eyes. He wiggled with his tail.he jumped off him. " Rabbits or froggs - ." He looked at him with big eyes" or an elk...yes let us hunt an elk!" He jumped around him. He was full of energy and ready for an adventure.

SloanSloan shook his head,
"No hunting elk. Frogs, sure and maybe some rabbits." He then heaved himself to his paws and began to walk into the open forest, glancing back to assure that Rafe would follow.

RafeRafe followed him, ran around Solan. " Wuuhuuuu!!, We are going hunting, we are going hunting!" he started to sniff on the ground to find a scent of a rabbit or frogg. Rafe looked at the big male " I will catch more than seven rabbits today, you will see!" he's eyes brighted lightly of high spirits.

SloanSloan looked down at Rafe and nodded,
"Not if you keep howling like that, you won't. You'll scare them off before we get to them." He spoke calmly to the dark pup. Looking ahead Sloan lifted his muzzle towards the sky and took in the scents before putting his nose to the ground, his ears turning to every noise.

Sloan's loud steps soon went silent, like he was walking on air. He made lighter indents into the puffy snow than he normally would. He had gone into his hunter mode.

RafeRafe stopped to speak loud immediately. He watched what Solan did and tried to do the same. The dark brown pup didn't find any scent. He got frustrated and sighted. "I can't smell anything.....here is nothing, only snow and dirt" he grumbled.

Sloan"Well then you aren't trying hard because I can smell a rabbit nearby in it's burrow." Sloan glanced back at Rafe before he lowered his body so that his chest and underbelly brushed against the snow, slowly walking forward.
"I'll show you how to do it then we'll find another and you can do it, okay?"

Sloan continued forward, keeping his body low and his steps silent, dark eyes unwavering from his target.

RafeRafe nodded" Alright". Rafe watched closely what Solan did. Rafe sniffed again and now he could smell the rabbit. It was a bit difficult for rafe to walk in the deep snow and to be silent at the same time. But he tried his best.

SloanSloan got close to the burrow before he growled lowly. At that the rabbit bolted from the burrow. Sloan ran after it, with a leap Sloan landed in front of the rabbit and before it had the chance to turn, his jaws clamped around it's neck. It struggled and squirmed in his jaws, but his bite was like a steel trap, and it gave in.

Sloan lifted the rabbit and walked to Rafe. He did not kill the rabbit yet. He set the rabbit in the snow and stepped on it so it could not escape.
"When you're going to kill your prey, you want to aim for the neck when you are going in for the killing blow okay?"

RafeRafe followed him as he catched the rabbit. He looked at the rabbit which wiggled under Solans claws. " uhm...okay...so...here we go..." Rafe grabbed it at the neck. He was too excited. The rabbit wiggled in his jaws, Rafe couldn't hold it anymore. It hit his nose with the back leg, Rafe yelped and licked his nose." Ouch!" The pup growled angrily and followed the rabbit." beware, I will get you!" He was too focused on his prey to look where he went.

SloanSloan was gone too, he had already home after the rabbit again. He came back, holding it in his jaws again, before setting it down and stepping on it again,
"Now, another thing is that you must never let go, even if they injure you."

RafeRafe rubbed his nose with his paw. " But it's too hard....it was too fast!" he grumbled. He looked at the next victim. Rafe was angry and growled with a deep tone. He grabbed it and bite it's neck. The rabbit squirmed but soon it didn't move anymore. Rafe licked his lips, which was covered a bit with blood. " I did it!" He looked up proudly at Sloan.

SloanSloan nodded,
"Many prey animals are faster than us, which is why once we have a grip we do not let go. Or we outnumber it until it gives in. Each animal was blessed with a gift." He spoke softly to the young wolf. Suddenly when the pup but and killed the rabbit Sloan got a look of amusement in his eyes.

"Your turn to catch one now." Sloan moved a step back to allow Rafe to go on his own search for a rabbit. He would not interfere unless he needed to, it was all up to the pup at this point.

RafeRafe nodded and tried to imitate how Sloan hunt the rabbit. He sniffed on the ground and tried to smell a rabbit. Rafe was focused on his task. Soon he found something, his tail started to wiggle as he followed the scent. He sneaked closer to it as Rafe saw his target. When he was close enough, Rafe ran to it. The rabbit ran for his life. It went to his hole. Rafe growled and grabbed the tail of it. Rafe pushed the rabbit to the ground with his two paws and looked triumphantly to Sloan. " I did it!"

SloanSloan watched Rafe imitate him, moving with his body low to the ground. Sloan himself kept his distance and just watched as the young wolf caught the rabbit before it escaped into it's burrow. Now Rafe held it beneath his two front paws to hold it down.

Sloan gave a nod,
"Well, no time to waste, finish it off." The stoic Hopi was now sitting in his spot to get a good view of where Rafe would be to catch more rabbits. In front of his paws was the first rabbit that was caught, he intended to make a pile close by him so no other predators could steal it.

RafeRafe nodded and killed it with a bite into the neck. He threw it to Sloan. And continued to search more rabbits. Rafe had fun to hunt. But soon he started just to play with the prey. He threw a rabbit in the air and catched it before it hit the ground. Rafe let it free and catched it again. He laughed about it.

SloanSloan shook his head and moved the pile to a safe place before going on his own rabbit hunt. He did not trail too far from Rafe with each hunt. Every time he returned, he stayed for a moment and watches over the pup before going back to hunt another rabbit.

Sloan eventually stopped hunting, seeing there were no more rabbits to hunt and the pile had grown to a nice sized pile. He was content with the pile and just say to watch Rafe play.

RafeSoon Rafe carried his prey to Sloan und dropped it to the others. Rafe shaked the snow off his fur. He looked up to Sloan" Can we hunt an elk now?" he asked expectantly. Rafe panted but he is still full of energy.

Sloan"Elk? No. You are far too young to catch elk." Sloan didn't want to tell Rafe the unfortunate news of the elk being able to kill them. Although he kept a secret, he was not lying either, Rafe was indeed to young to hunt elk. He did not want the pup to be harmed or even killed in a hunt and under Sloan's protection. The guilt would've eaten up Sloan's mind.

"Anything else you would like to hunt besides elk?" He inquired, with a tilt of his head. Unlike his usual blank gaze, there was a slight softness in his eyes as he looked down upon the pup.

RafeRafe thought about it." hmmm...what about froggs?..Are they tasty?" he asked warily. He looked around and liked his lips." Or maybe we can explore the area a bit ...yes let's do this!" He jumped around and started to go ahead.

Sloan"Exploring seems fine, but first help me taje this rabbit back to the den site then we will go on and explore. Sound good?" Sloan rose to his paws and began to pick up as many of the rabbits as he could in his jaws. He glanced back at Rafe, waiting for him to assist.

RafeRafe looked back at Sloan and then to the rabbits." Okay..." He went back to him and picked up the last two rabbits. "lef fo! (let's go)" he went to the camp." fenk fou for feafen me fo funt!"( thank you for teaching me to hunt)".He said politely.

SloanSloan bowed his head in response to him in his way of saying, 'You're welcome'. He walked alongside Rafe, leading him back to rhe main densite, keeping an eye on him, just in case. He remembered how curious he was when he was a pup, always wandering away when he got the chance. He didn't want that to happen to Rafe.

RafeRafe dropped the rabbits to the other prey and ran back tothe forest immidiatly. Soon he disappeared into a bush. He looked around and started to explore the area. Rafe looked into holes and jumped on rocks. He forgot to wait for Sloan. He saw a little mice which tried to find food in the snow. Rafe sneaked slowly and focused to the mice. But before he could react the little snack discovered him and tried to run off. Rafe followed it immidiatly.

SloanSloan set down his rabbits in the same pile as Rafe's, when suddenly the pup took off, disappearing into a bush. He turned and ran after him, catching up with ease. He spotted the mice that Rafe was going after. Sloan started to call to Rafe in a whisper,
"Rafe. Get back here."

RafeRafe stopped immidiatly as he heared sloans voice and looked up" but why? Look here are mices to hunt!" He grinned at him.

SloanSloan shooked his head when the fox snapped at Rafe. Sloan then bared his teeth and took a threatening step towards it, causing the fox to run off.
"Be careful, Rafe. Anything can be a threat, I wouldn't go around growling at other predators." He said before he moved on, but paused and turned, looking at Rafe.
"Come on, let's move."

RafeRafe looked up at Sloan. He followed him." Okay, where we are going now?" He asked. Rafe walked by his side. For rafe it was really hard to walk in deep snow.

Sloan"Well... Where do you wish to go?" Sloan tilted his head and looked down at the small wolf. He then picked him up by his scruff, setting him down in front of him so that he would no longer walk in the deep snow. Bonus, Sloan knew that he would also be in his line of sight so it may be easier for him to keep Rafe out of danger.

RafeRafe thought about it. " hmm maybe we could explore somewhere?" His tail wiggled and his eyes brighted lightly.

Sloan"Sure. But do not run off without getting my approval." Sloan set the rule, gazing down at the pup with his dark gaze. He then motioned, with his muzzle for him to walk on.

RafeRafe nodded." Alright!" He went ahead and looked around. He Imagned to be an alpha who have to find an enemy which dared to enter the Chogan territory. Rafe's tail lifted up like an alpha. His ears were ready to hear every little noise.

SloanSloan followed behind Rafe, watching his posture change to one of an Alpha's. He never really got the chance to enjoy the pleasure of using his imagination as a pup, but he left it be and continued to keep an eye out while also watching Rafe.

RafeRafe walked proudly ahead. He looked around sniffed on the ground." It's really cool here!" He said happily.

SloanSloan nodded his head slightly and he looked around. The sounds around him allowed him to stay relaxed. He flicked his ear and lowered his head in a slightly tired maner.

RafeRafe looked around and saw a strange thing on the ground. It was covered with leaves and snow. It was a bear trap. " Wow...look what I have found Sloan!" He ran to it and sniffed carefully on it. He walked around that thing." What is that strange thing?" he tried to uncover it.

SloanSloan looked at the trap, his eyes widened. He launched himself forward, snapping up Rafe by his scruff just before the trap clamped shut, barely missing, Sloan's paw. Once it was secure, Sloan set Rafe down just between his front two paws as he looked around. He attempted to seek out any more traps, but saw none.
"That was a trap that was set for bears to step into. It's very hard to escape them."

RafeRafe looked shooked at the trap." Oh my god" rafe started to tremble. His tail was between his legs." Where did it come from?" He asked scaredly.

Sloan"Furless Warriors.." Sloan growled and picked up Rafe, running off, dodging through possible areas where traps could be hidden.

RafeRafe licked nervous his lips."what are they? I never heared about them before " he said scaredly.

SloanSloan set down Rafe, after slowing to a stop in his running. "Beasts that stand on their hind legs like a bear would. Only they do it all the time. Furless warriors hunt bears, wolves, foxes, and so on. They set these traps to hold the bears while they kill whatever is caught." Sloan explained. He frowned, speaking with a growl.

RafeRafe looked scared at him and looked around" are they in our territory?!" Rafe whinned. He stayed close to Sloan.

SloanSloan sighed, "I hope not. Now let's get out of here." He said as he picked up Rafe and ran off again. He weaved through areas where he suspected traps were hidden. When he got distracted by a rustle in the bushes, he tripped over something. He protected Rafe with his own body. Unfortunately, he landed his shoulder in a bear trap and it clamped down on his flesh, causing him to yelp. He let go of Rafe, setting him in the snow.

RafeRafe yelped totally shocked and slithered on the snow. He stood up immidiatly and ran to him" Sloan!" he whinned and ran around him to find anything to open the trap. Rafe was shocked and overwhelmed." W-what should I do?!...P-please don't die!" he tried to use his teeth to open it. He failed. Rafe looked around in hope seeing any of his packmates to help him.

Sloan"Don't worry.. I don't die easily." Sloan flattened his ears at the agony he was in, but he had to stay strong. He stood up the best he could and tried to pull his shoulder from the trap, but to no avail. Sloan laid back down in the snow.

RafeRafe whinned and licked his wounds. He walked around him panicly. He pushed unconsciously on a lever which opened the trap a bit. Rafe didn't notice it.

SloanSloan did notice it and he wiggled his shoulder free, getting back to his paws. The sun was setting and they were still a distance from the main densite. To add into the horror of night, it was winter. Winter was the time where the clouds piled snow heavily into the ground again and he did not Rafe to freeze so he had to find shelter and hopefully heal as the storm passed.

RafeRafe stood on his backlegs to clean sloan's wounds with his tongue." I'm so sorry" he trembled a bit." Can you walk?" He ask.

SloanSloan nudged Rafe back onto his all fours. He let out a long breath before speaking,
"It was not your fault. Also, yes. I can walk." He nodded and nudged the pup forward.

RafeRafe whinned and walked ahead back to the camp. He felt guilty about what happened.

SloanSloan took notice of the guilty look that Rafe had and he sighed, blocking the pup from walking forward, "Don't feel bad Rafe. Like I said it was not your fault."

RafeRafe looked sadly at Sloan "y-ya" he said toneless. He saw the camp where they live. Rafe was scared of the reaction when they hear what happened to Sloan.

Sloan"Please, it's fine." Sloan sighed as he limped into the densite. Some wolves looked shocked, some knew he could handle himself. Sloan did not seem bothered by his wound but he went to see the healer of the pack.

RafeRage followed him to the healer. Rafe's head was lower than usually, his tail wasn't up anymore, it was now between his legs. He saw Kamali who looked a bit shooked at him and Sloan. He gave the fault himself.. He should have been more careful back there.

SloanSloan sat and allowed the pack healer, Kerri tend to his shoulder wound. He wasn't precisely in pain, he never really showed it on his face. As he waited for her to finish, he glanced over at Rafe every so often.

RafeRafe was sitting nearby. And looked guilty at his paws which were covered in snow. He didn't dare to look up at the one who saved his life. He shiverd because of the shock what happened and of coldness.

SloanWhen Kerri was finished with tending to his wound, he stood and limped over to Rafe. Without a word he sat down beside the pup, just looking down at him calmly.

RafeHe knew Sloan won't apologize. Rafe's eyes looked sadly at him." I will be more careful, I promise" his voice was soft. It started snowing, landed on both of them.

SloanSloan let out a long breath, the warmth of this breath causing it to show from the heat and cold mixing together. He sighed and finally spoke,
"Rafe. I want you to know that what happend was not your fault. Niether of us knew where we had ended up.."

RafeRafe sighed and nodded. " Alright... we should get some rest right?" He stood up.

SloanSloan sighed one final time before he nodded and stood up. He turned and limped off to his den without a word.

RafeRafe sighed and walked to the den where Kamali waited for him, ready to answer some questions.
