Description
Because everyone keeps asking for one, and I'm sitting through a long, boring 8 hours of work. I had some spare time, to say the least.I hope this is at least a little helpful, if not just giving everyone insight as to how I paint my manes and tails.
If you do use my technique, I would love to see your work. :3
Credits are on the image, however...

Thanks to your tutorial I was able to draw this

Although I have tried to draw the mane too. But after 2 times it still doesn't look like how mane should be drawn I think. It looks so terrible that I don't wanna upload it on DA xD

I use photoshop Elements would the radius thing be angle? That's all I have on my program... Also do you paint over the acutal tail, or cut it out/?
π: 0 β©: 1
amourali In reply to welshdreamvalley [2013-10-02 14:34:05 +0000 UTC]
I stated the radius constantly through my tutorial. xD
And I paint over the actual tail because I try to stick to the natural shape, as well as I grab the colours to paint the tail with from the original tail itself.

welshdreamvalley In reply to amourali [2013-10-02 16:28:24 +0000 UTC]
I must have mis-read it somewhere... I don't have the radius thing on my program, and I ususally start with 5px brush for the bases side... I have to try this tequince though, even though it would be lot more trail and error with me since mouse track-pad is hard lol. I ususally use the three spot brush since was easier. I would use this in my next personal picture.

I am, i think i did alot better then i thought it would, a the end i read the thing that said that you had to smudge it after every color i didnt do that and didnt feel like going over so i just kinda smudge the top of it... But thank you for making it! And your welcome!

Lynelle13 [2013-08-04 02:41:36 +0000 UTC]
when you smudge each step... what size and strength do you do it?
π: 0 β©: 1
amourali In reply to Lynelle13 [2013-08-06 02:23:50 +0000 UTC]
Between 3-5% opacity, generally 5.5px fuzzy brush.

One question: is GIMP's 'fuzzy brush' a soft brush?
π: 0 β©: 1
amourali In reply to MaidenStar [2013-05-27 04:10:50 +0000 UTC]
Yes! Like I mentioned in the tutorial, it only has 0.5 hardness.
π: 0 β©: 1
MaidenStar In reply to amourali [2013-05-27 20:21:44 +0000 UTC]
Hmm...but I use Photoshop, and the smallest I can go is a 1px brush. >.<
π: 0 β©: 1
amourali In reply to MaidenStar [2013-05-27 20:27:49 +0000 UTC]
Well I mean, I start with a 3px brush and just scale it from there, the lowest being a scale of 0.3, so that's pretty much a 1px brush. xD

Just to clarify, you use a laptop trackpad, yes? If so, do you have any tips on keeping your strokes steady?
π: 0 β©: 1
amourali In reply to jasmine-autumn [2013-05-25 21:36:19 +0000 UTC]
Yes I do. Honestly, I know this isn't helpful, but it just takes practice.
Other than that... When you're painting the lines of the hair, don't do it slowly - quick motions will make it smoother.
