She begged her boyfriend to take her to the ruins one day. The site was surrounded by thick jungle and ignored by most archaeologists due to its lack of major artifacts, but she swore there was something there she wanted to see. She had always been something of a history nerd. He accepted. Right after they got there, she ran out of the car and into the ancient, dilapidated stone structure. Just a minute or two later, she came back out to greet him, holding a peculiar egg-shaped jade orb in her hands.
"What's that you've got there, babe?" he asked. Though curious, he didn't really want to ask how she had known to look here specifically, knowing that she had recently spent an unusual amount of sleepless nights with her nose buried in musty old books.
"Hee hee!" she giggled to herself giddily. She was obviously elated to have found it, whatever it was. "I wanted you to be here for this moment, babe. If I'm right..." She fiddled with the weird jewel for a few more moments before her eyes went wide. "OH, YES!!"
Suddenly, a huge flash of light erupted from the gem, forcing him to shield his eyes with his hand. He felt a bizarre tingle when he uncovered them a few moments later. As his vision adjusted back to normal, what he saw was completely different from what had been there just a moment ago: Not only had his cute, nerdy girlfriend been transformed into the sculptural image of a classical goddess, with alluring garments and ornaments to match, but the entire ruined complex had been reshaped into a lavish palace that echoed historical accounts of the sort of places that ancient, decadent rulers called home.
"I bet you've got a few questions," she said, her formerly shrill voice transformed into a honeyed, dulcet contralto. "Simply put, the gem, which had lain hidden here for thousands of years, has the power to reshape reality... to grant wishes, if you will. Or at least, it did. I've just transferred all of its potential into myself, you see... and taken it for a test drive."
He could do nothing but stare, mouth agape, drool beginning to form at the edge.
"I've decided to make this, the site of my ascension, into the seat of my eternal supremacy," she said, gesturing to the opulent architecture which had just formed around her. "Effective immediately, this, my palace of emergence, is the new center of the universe. So, lover, want to come with me and find out just what kind of fun an omnipotent goddess can get up to?"
