As I pulled up to the intersection to make my left turn, I had a wonderful moment. I suddenly became very...present. Everything took definite shape before me, even as my awareness consumed the world's minute changes. And the night was beautiful. I watched as a single car made a left turn before driving away from me, its ghostly red headlights slowly chasing the hidden horizon and eventually disappearing over the hill. I felt the air outside of my car, I felt each minuscule undulation of the mild Los Angeles cold, solid as anything — my windows were closed. My radio was silent, but the subtle sounds of life soared through my pores like a sleeping person breathing. I smiled.

I always thought driving a lot would let to such weird experiences where you feel 'at one' with the world. It's worth noting that during all this time you're locked in a box on wheels.

Every once in a while, we just connect with the real world. I wish we could make those moments longer.
