Description

One of the new classes of dedicated warships designed for Starfleet in the aftermath of the Dominion War, the Altair Class cruiser was designed to protect Federation supply lines and shipping lanes in time of war. Learning from the Dominion’s effective use of large numbers of relatively small warships the Altair class was designed to accommodate up to twenty-four Danube class runabouts (later to be replaced by Venom class attack craft www.deviantart.com/andared/art… ) which would allow a single Altair to monitor a large area of space and have reasonable chance of successfully engaging swarms of small raiding vessels as well larger warships without support from other Starfleet or allied assets; thus freeing those assets for front line duties.
