Description
I did an earlier version of this and pulled off of DA after coming to the conclusion it sucked. After two different versions of line-art, and starting the coloring over three times, it's finished.Based off the Uriaha Heep's classic song Lady In Black. Lyrics Below:
She came to me one morning
One lonely Sunday morning
Her long hair flowing
In the midwinter wind
I know not how she found me
For in darkness I was walking
And destruction lay around me
From a fight I could not win
Ah ah ah...
She asked me name my foe then
I said the need within some men
To fight and kill their brothers
Without thought of love or God
And I begged her give me horses
To trample down my enemy
So eager was my passion
To devour this waste of life
Ah ah ah...
But she would not think of battle that
REDUCES men to animals
So easy to begin
And then impossible to end
For she, the mother of all men
had counselled me so wisely then
I feared to walk alone again
And asked if she would stay
Ah ah ah...
Oh lady lend your hand I cried
And let me rest here at your side
Have faith and trust
In me she said
And filled my heart with life
There is no strength in numbers
Have no such misconception
But when you need me
Be assured I won't be far away
Ah ah ah...
Thus having spoke she turned away
And though I found no words to say
I stood and watched until I saw
Her black cloak disappear
My labor is no easier
But now I know I'm not alone
I find new heart each time
I think upon that windy day
And if one day she comes to you
Drink deeply from her words so wise
Take courage from her
As your prize
And say hello from me
Ah ah ah...

Ah, I know the frustration of doing a piece over and over. It must have felt great to finally finish this !
I have not heard this song before, and it was a pleasure reading the lyrics - you captured them quite well. There is truly an impressive amount of detail put into this piece, such as in the man's armor and sword. Your attention to tiny details such as the texture of the chainmail and the woman's jewelry really makes the scene come to life. Of the two characters, I am particularly drawn to the female - she is rendered quite well, and her hair came out beautifully.
Something I think will help you while coloring in the future is to limit your use of the airbrush. It can often create an 'over-blended' or artificial look, and I think your work will achieve more of a realistic feel with using harder brushes. They do require a bit more of an effort to blend, but can help create different textures that the airbrush can't, and I believe will really help push your work further.
Keep up the good work !

Thanks for the kind words.
Actually, the tool I'm over utilizing is the blur tool, as I rarely use the airbrush. You are not the fist to say that I over blend, so I guess I'll have to take that to heart.
Thanks again.

Ah, my mistake. Yeah, the blur tool is probably something that's best to use only sparingly.
You're welcome.

Very nice! Your figures are kind of stiff, but I love the detail in the guy's armour.

Yea, I noticed the stiffness too. May do it over a third time. Thanks for the look.

I like the use of color in the armor. Chain mail effect is good.
