Description
I like to switch things up but this is usually how I paint things, starting with a line drawing then blocking in colors underneath before moving onto the final rendering of values/textures overtop everything.Sometimes I don't see certain mistakes until later stages, like realizing Mordin's hips were very feminine looking in the initial linework, which is why I like this process because once I block in the flat colors I get a rough idea of the silhouette and can make adjustments before proceeding to the laborious rendering stage.

How long does the line drawing usually take you, and what resolution/dpi do you start at?

so you start with the linework, put in some first colours and then.....oh come on!

Just curious, why do you choose to go strait to colour rather than using monochrome first to make the setting of values easier for you?

I find that trying to add color on top of value can lead to weird clashes with temperature

What kind of brush options do you sketch with and what tablet for the first stage? As much as i try to get into it and enjoy i still have massive preference to sketching by hand which is really holding me back since I don't have a scanner handy.

Really interesting to see the progress of an image from sketch to final painting. Thanks for sharing!

Also: Next time could you post another shot, between 2 and 3? It feels like a bit of a jump in quality (but then again it's always the last 20% of final touches that make it look professional, but those are the ones we usually miss out).

I really do like your series of Dragon Effect.
Just a curious thought - what do you mean under rendering? (I never really knew if it was directly referencing to 3d process stuff too, or it's just about detailing)

Could you rephrase your question? I don't quite follow what you want to know.

Does the word render stand for fleshing out/detailing the pic?
Sorry for the incomprehensiblity. X)

Cool! Although I prefer when you can recognize the armor. The armor looks a little too much like the chantryrobes
