Here are a few of the Discworld's more easily to identify Trolls. I had a very long list of trolls to choose from. I'm not going to name them al for you, if I have to do that, then I must not have done a very good job. Feel free to identify them yourself. When I realized that I had 8 contenders for the image, I decided to keep it at that number so I could call it "Many, Many Trolls" ... otherwise I probably would have included Zorgo, and DatsMe, and maybe Tethis, even though he's not really a troll. This image was drawn traditionally with a mechanical pencil.Related content

I've always loved the idea of the trolls in Discworld essentially being living, sapient rock. And I love how you included Ruby in there, and Mr Shine - after all, him diamond.

Somehow, I never saw the trolls as "people" before I saw your picture...I saw them as literary devices.
There is a lot of prejudice in the DW books but not just in the way people act - they way Terry describes them is itselfone-sided (always dumb, slow, aggressive brutes who all act and speak the same way). Looking at this though, I feel I got a little better understanding of them too, and some scenes when characters like Vimes treat them with care and friendship sound more honest too.
Excellent work. This is exactly how they should be.
(Again, I love the body types you gave them, Brick in particuloar is excellent and a shape I'd never have thought of, yet it fits perfectly.)

i reckon chrys and ruby look a bit human, but other than that it looks awesome.

Ahhh, this is one I do know! Brick, Detritus, Ruby, Mr Shine (him diamond), Chrysophrase, Lias Bluestone / Cliff and Asphalt, and Bluejohn is the big fella at the back.

Most of it is good (many, many good), but Ruby looks far too human. Female trolls don't have hair, anyway. And Chrysoprase could do with being a little more craggy.

This is the first time I've seen most of these guys illustrated, and am very pleased. I...think I can identify all of them, but my personal favorite is Bluejohn just for the goofball expression on his face.

Hmm, I like the drawing, but the title bothers me. Don't trolls count one, two, many, lots? And so lots would be four, so it would be lots and lots of trolls.
I would have liked to see Jade in there, but oh well, Bluejohn will do

It's the first fanart of Brick I have seen. And yet he is as sad, miserable but strangely adorable as I imagined him. It makes me feel a little sorry for him. And makes me want Detritus to adopt him.

Bluejohn's helmet and gigantic size give him away. Chrysoprase I would have expected to be a tad bigger and less human-shaped, but getting his suit right on a more trollish body would have been a nightmare, I suspect (my US edition copy of Thud! was edited by people who don't know the words "prase" or "chrysoprase" and they added an h after the p -- although I'm told that Pratchett himself supposedly got it wrong too, originally). Lias/Cliff and Ruby strike me as especially right, although apart from my quibble about '

Only one missing in my opinion is Lancre's border troll, don't know why but i've always liked the border troll, oh and carborundum (Jade). Chrysophrase looks a little too human. I like how Brick sort of looks like he's been doing scrape. and carborundum (Jade).

You mean "Big Jim Beef"?
I did consider including Jade too, (Also thought about Rocky and Tethis, and several others) but I wanted to be able to call it "Many Many Trolls" so I kept the number at 8.
Not sure how I would have made Big Jim Beef identifiable though... I guess he could have been holding a potato-stamp with a duck-shape cut out of it, but I think that's stretching things a bit.

last two books I've read were thud and soul music though so i had an advantage i guess ^^

Actually.. this drawing was just me sitting around one Saturday afternoon. I was bored of watching watching my wife play Guitar Hero, and decided to draw something... I just kept the pencil moving, and was done by that evening. So, if the beter part of a day is a long time... then yes, it took me a long time.

I'm guessing form left to right: A troll from pyramids? Detritus, *Don't know*, the on at the back slips my memory, but he is in Fifth Elephant (?) and is blue john? And the one in the suit has to be Mr Chrysalis?

I'm surprised, you managed to name what I consdered to be the most difficult of the trolls in this image, Bluejohn. You got Detritus right too, but he was the easy one. You most likely do have to read a few more books to get the rest.

The fact that he was a watch Troll *besides* Detritus made him stick out in my mind, plus it's an unusual name for a troll.
I'm also guessing there's a troll from monstrous regiment in there? *shiver* I didn't like that book.
I think, more over I need to read the books again!
