Description
This was inspired by the ending of "Thief of Time". I had not seen a drawing of all five Discworld Horsemen yet, so I thought I would give it a go. I have seen Paul Kidby's beautiful painting of the Four Horsemen, and took some details from it (the man does such a great job of getting the characters right, I can't help it) But I made sure not to look at it at all while I was working on this one, so as not to copy anything directly, so I only used what I could remember of that painting. This one was drawn traditionally and then colored digitally. I ran into a few small problems when working out the details of this piece. Kaos is said to have a sword of burning cold so I originally wanted to have his aura be blue. But Death already has the blue glow in his eyes, so I felt the need to keep his aura blue. So I had to go with purple for Kaos. Also, we do not know what weapons Pestilence, War, and Famine carry. Death has is scythe of course, but I had to go to the source and use what the Book of Revelations says the Horsemen had in their hands. So I gave Pestilence the bow, and Famine the scales, (neither of which I really liked, but I couldn't come up with anything better) but according to the Bible, War should technically have a sword. But since we know Kaos already has a sword I gave War a battle axe instead.
The horses' colors gave me a bit of trouble too. The Bible says that War rides a red horse, and Famine rides a black horse, which was no trouble, but it is well known that Death rides a pale horse. Obviously Terry Pratchett interpreted this to mean white when he created the character of Binky, and that is a fair interpretation, but not when you read that Pestilence rides a white horse. So technically, Pestilence's horse should be a lighter shade than Death's, since white is lighter than pale, but I had to stay true to Binky, so I gave Pestilence a more realistic white horse, and kept Binky the brilliant white that we all know and love. Brown hadn't been used, so I gave Kaos a brown horse to keep them all different.

Great, I love colours of auras, but there is one thing that always irked me when it is about Four riders of Apocalypse, in original, Pestilence is actually Conquest, but in modern times it is Pestilence.

I love how the characters are drawn and colored! The background seems a bit too busy and distracting for my taste though.
Still, very beautiful work!

Well, what to say...
I once adapted the Hoursemen chaseing Rincewind, Twoflower and the Luggage from a Borsche woodcut to make a mock book cover for an exam. I consulted Kidby's work too, but they all came out as having kind of an English monk theme. Except for War, who looked like an un armoured version of a viking. But enough about me...
I really love this peice, any Discworld fan will. In Theif Of Time I think there was a section of text that mentioned them all drawing four swords and haking at the Auditors (Who should all be grey, but I'm not going to nit pick) but it's intersting to see the diffrent auraus around them. The similarity between each rider make for a great syncronized effect as they spread out and charge, and that's great combined with the dynamic colour scheme of the auras and the Auditor's. Is their sparkly highlights and stars meant to be a refrence to the Horsemen being the metaphysical equation of a rock band? It looks like their rideing out a disco at first glance.

Thanks,
In answer to your question... Not really. Grey Auditors just made the scene kind of bland, so I jazzed them up a bit with some color. I originally wanted the background to be a kind of outer space scene, and the stars to be showing through the semi-transparent auditors. When it was done, I realized that it wasn't quite the effect I wanted after all, and went for a more Dark Void location but I liked the ethereal sparkling of the stars on the Auditors, so I kept them.
