Description Shape Shifter Basic Info Draft
Section1: The Beast
Section 1:A Types Of Beasts)  A Shape Shifter’s Beast can take the form of any animal, be it natural or mythological. It is most common that the best comes in the form of a large mammalian carnivore, but it can also take the form of a reptile or bird of prey as well. Very rarely does it take the form of a prey animal, and those that are unlucky enough to have a prey animal for their beast are very often caught and killed by Shape Shifter Hunters at a young age. Prey type Shifters are typically not permitted to be part of a pack of normal shifters, as they would be very likely to be killed by a predator shifter during the full moon. The rarest type of predator beast is a dragon, either Eastern or Western types. The dragon beast blood line is nearly wiped out due to Hunters killing them for their skins and horns/claws which are ivory. The few Shifters with dragon blood in them are very rarely full blooded. (more about mixed bloods in the next section) And the rarest type of prey beast is a unicorn or kirin, for the same reason as the dragons.
Section 1 Mixed Breeds) Mixed breeds are looked down upon in the shifter world, as most prefer to keep pure bloodlines. Typically the only kinds of mixed bloods that survive long are ones that are in the same genre of beast. Take my Trisk for example, he is a mixture of two different breeds of cat, Snow Leopard and Caracal. Because they are still common animals, the two species just mix to become something new that’s a mixture of the two. In Trisk’s case, he has the build of a Snow Leopard, and the base fur color and face/ears of the Caracal. Any mixture of two felines ot two canines, avians, ect. Ect. will work just fine. But if two different genres of beasts mate, the child will most likely not live a full lifespan. But in rare cases, the child has no complications, but this is rather rare. Take my Ezzie for example, He is a mixture of 1/2 pureblood Dragon, 1/4 Asian Black Bear, and ¼ African Wild Dog. In his case, since he is more dragon than anything else, the Dragon part of his DNA trumps the Asian Black Bear and African Wild Dog, and unless he tries very hard, he always shifts into a dragon. In cases like his, where one parent is pure blood, and one is half and half, they have a better chance of surviving. The main reason a mixed breed does not usually survive if they’re half and half is because their two beasts battle for dominance inside of them and eventually kills them.

Section 1.C: Shifting: When a Shifter prepares to shift, glowing orbs of light surround them and swirl around them until you can barely see them. The lights’ colors vary from Shifter to Shifter. They are typically the main color of the Shifter’s coat. It is fairly rare for a Shifter to have more than one color of lights, but sometimes the color changes as they mature. The Shift is very quick, but sometimes very painful due to the reforming and moving of bones and muscles. The stronger the Shifter, the less painful it is.

Section 2: Hunters

Section 2.A: The Why’s For The Hunt) Hunters have been around for as long as shifter’s have been. They originally started hunting because the shifter’s killed some of their livestock on the nights of the full moon. Over time they found that people would pay a high price for the pelts of shifters, as the often has unnatural marking and sometime unnatural colors as well. As each shifter is so large, one pelt is enough to make a coat from. Their teeth were often ground down to dust and used in tribal medicines as well. The problem for the hunters was that they shifter’s were useless to them if they died in human form, as they couldn’t get to the pelt, but if they killed the shifter in their beast form, they would remain in that form even after death, and the hunter could take their pelt. But the shifters figured out very quickly that if they just didn’t shift, than they would be less likely to be killed. This left the hunters at a great disadvantage. They couldn’t force the Shifters to shift, so they couldn’t afford to kill them and not get the pelt. Eventually the Hunters developed a type of collar, enchanted by a dark mage or Sorcerer/Sorceress, that once they cough a shifter in a trap and put the collar on them, they could not only force them to shift at their own will, but could control them and make them force other, weaker shifters to shift as well.

Section 2 Hunters And Traitor Shifters) There are some Shifters, with evil in their hearts, that in exchange for riches and pardons on their lives, turn on their own kind on their own free will and help the hunters take down weaker Shifters. There are even cases recorded of Rouge Shifters earning the trust of entire packs of Shifters, only to get them to shift, and hand them over to the waiting Hunters. These Shifters are considered to be the lowest of the low, and if given the chance, any Shifter loyal to their own kind would gleefully kill them on sight.

Section 3: Pack Life

Section 3.A: Pack Make Up: Any pack of Shifters will be made up of many different breeds of Beasts. No matter what the breed, they all work together to take care of their own, much like in a wolf pack. Each member has their own duty to uphold, and if everyone does their part, then the Pack thrives.

Section 3.A: Pack Hierarchy: Within the Pack there are different power levels, and corresponding ranks. The most powerful Shifter in the pact always ends up as the Alpha. The Alpha can be either male, or female, it doesn’t really matter. Below the Alpha is his/her three Lieutenants that the Alpha hand picks to serve under him/her. Below the Lieutenants are 5-10 (depending on the Pack size) Enforcers, who keep order in the Pack and enforce the rules that the Alpha and Lieutenants set. Their other job and being the first defenders of the Pack. They must be willing to give their lives up in order to protect the weaker members of the Pack at a moment’s notice. Bellow the Enforcers are the normal level male and non-caregiver female members of the Pack, responsible for hunting and gathering, and teaching the pups (Children under the age of 13) how to control their Beasts and fight/hunt. Under them are the Care Giver female member, who devote their lives to caring for the Pups. The Pups mothers and fathers rarely raise them, the job mainly falls on the Care Givers. The lowest and weakest members of the Pack are the Pups and Elders. They are to be protected at all costs. The only other noted position in the Pack is the Healer. ( In my personal Pack the job falls to my Canine Shifter Kistna) The Healer is always from the same family line, and their talent for healing using their Beasts follows that family line.

Section 4: Dieses and Disorders.

Section 4.A: Heterochromia: Heterochromia, or having two different colored eyes, is uncommon in Shifters, and those that have it are very prone to personality disorders such as but not limited to: Multiple Personality Disorder, Schizotypal Personality Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder. It isn’t known why this happens mainly in Shifters with Heterochromia, but any shifter born with it is immediately crafted a Moon Stone and Moon Dew infused silver collar of sorts, to help control their Beasts. Without the special collar to inhibit their Beasts, every time they Shift they would go into a blood thirsty rage and try to kill whoever is near them. But the downside to the collar is that the Shifter will never reach their full potential, as it blocks off some of their power. But even with some of their power blocked off, these Shifters are much more powerful than your average Shifter. Most can control some element at will and use it to fight even in human form.

Section 4.B: Mood and Mental Disorders:  While these types of disorders are very uncommon in Shifters, other than those with Heterochromia, they do occur from time to time. The problem with a Shifter having any time of disorder than might need meds is 1) Shifter as a rule try to avoid normal humans and their treatments. And 2) Even if they were to get human meds, they metabolize things so fast, that the meds would do no good unless they took them ever few hours. Most Shifters with these types of disorders tend to live away from any Packs, because unlike the Shifters born with Heterochromia, there is no way to help them that they Shifters know of at this time.

Section 4.C: Physical Illnesses: Physical illnesses are very uncommon in Shifters as they have nearly perfect immune systems.

You should probably also describe how pack leaders are chosen. Yeah, I understand that the leader is the strongest, but there has to be some way to determine that.

Oops, I thought I added that typically it's decided by a fight for dominance like in a wolf pack. I'm gonna go start revising it now.

I just noticed this... did you mean the hunter's collar makes a shifter transform against their will?

Yes, the Hunter collar forces a Shifter to stay in beast form for as long as the Hunters want. Eventually they Shifter won't be able to shift back, and goes basically insane, and the Hunters kill the Shifter and sell their pelt.
