Description
Colored version of my sword concept from earlier today. It's meant to be made of some sort of stone, with a crystalline blade protruding from the stone core.I did it with a shitty little mouse in the GIMP - it took forever. Talk about low-tech...I don't feel bad though, since it's my first serious attempt at digital art. Lets say I have a new respect for all of the digital artists out there.

Hey there! Thank you very much for stopping by my deviation and leaving kind comments. I have never used Gimp, so I'll just stick to the aspects I kind of know
The good:
Shapes are looking great. I love your silhouette. It's strong, unique, and vicious. An interesting silhouette is just about the most important thing when it comes to prop design. Everything else comes later.
Could be improved:
This might be because of the program you are using. It's difficult to tell what the material is. If this weapon were to be used by an organic character, the sharp hilt would be painful to grip. Your usage of blade elements does help in clarifying things though. Fantasy materials are always tricky. My best advice is to look for reference images of the material you have in mind, or something that shares certain qualities of your fictional material (e.g. "shiny", "icy"...) and pull inspirations from them - see how they react to light, etc.
G'nite and Keep up the great work ^^

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to post that. It's all excellent information and I'll definitely use it as I move further into the field. Good luck at your studio, keep on truckin'!
