Here is another scenario I imagined for a perfectly squared off character select screen. Fighter 11 is Rillaboom from Pokémon Sword and Shield, and he is revealed and released in December 2021. Rillaboom's drum mechanic took a lot more time and thorough development to make it work, which is why Sakurai said it would be a while until he was finally revealed and released. At the end of Rillaboom's presentation video, a third Fighter Pass of three more characters is revealed. The first character in Fighter Pass Vol. 3 is Geno from Super Mario RPG, who is revealed on March 9th, 2022 to commemorate the game's anniversary. The second character in Fighter Pass Vol. 3 is Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, who is revealed at the E3 2022 Nintendo Direct. The third character in Fighter Pass Vol. 3 is Crash Bandicoot, who also comes with Coco Bandicoot as an echo fighter. Both Crash and Coco are revealed on September 9th to commemorate the anniversary of the first Crash Bandicoot game, and they come with only one stage under Crash. The inclusion of Geno, Ryu Hayabusa, Crash, and Coco after Rillaboom would make the character select screen a perfect square, and three new stages brought in under Geno, Ryu Hayabusa, and Crash respectively would perfectly square out the stage select screen as well.
