The girls are not exactly good, but the villain is the dwarf.
His name is Alberich.
This story is "The Ring of the Nibelung" of Richard Wagner.
Humiliated by the maidens, the dwarf steals the Rhine gold to forge a magic ring.
"The Lord of the Rings" is partially based in this story.
