"Hey, Tezzi, how'd you go in your exam?" Rit ran up behind Tezzima seriously wondering how she fared throughout the exam. She never studied or did homework, but always got good marks. He was secretly envious.
"I tell you every time you ask me this after a test. I cannot acquire the information you are inquiring about as I do not know myself," She didn't seem irate, but the way she always said things so formerly gave off the impression that she was and most people let her be.
Not Ritter, though. He was either stupid or had some way of knowing when she wasn't agitated, "How do you think you went then, smarty pants."
"I do not make it a habit of thinking on the topic after I have completed what was required," she replied curtly, "If I seem to have passed once we get the results back, it is a good thing, but I would prefer if we did not dwell on the subject before that time."
Despite his fool-hardy nature, he understood Tezzima's obvious 'don't-talk-to-me-unless-you-want-to-be-injured' mood. He backed off about the exam. He was confused, though, she was usually always okay with talking about them and teasing him, telling him where he was wrong and that he wouldn't get a very high mark. Instead he started a new conversation strain. "Where're we sitting today? You always like to choose a new spot every couple of days."
"Correct. I do think that having a new spot will allow there to be a new change of scenery so one does not get bored of the view. However, in saying that, I would like to stay in the place we were last week. There are no noisy, nosey pompous little brats to annoy me there."
Her expression stayed neutral. Damn! Why was she so hard to read! She said things that made her seem annoyed, but nothing but her words showed if she was or not. No voice inflections, no flicker of anything flashed across her face except for the occasional sarcastic smile when she was talking down to someone she disliked.
Trying to be careful to word it correctly, he asked quietly, "Tezzi... are you human? You don't really act like one. Or show emotion for that matter. I've always wondered. Please don't be mad."
Ritter expected her to talk down at him, but he got a completely unexpected response. She laughed, and the whole world around her lit up. The features of her face were bright and accented her perfectly straight teeth that were all showing in a true smile, not a sarcastic one. Her cheeks went a light pink from the laughter, and her bright green eyes were barely visible from her chestnut brown hair falling over her face as she let her head fall only to bring it back up again, tears starting to form.
"I am not entirely sure myself, but for as long as I can remember, I have been a human. What a silly thing to wonder, Rit."
Ritter flushed red, "It was a legitimate question! You're always so formal and talk like a robot!"
"Between you and me," she said, going down a step so she didn't have to bend to whisper in his ear, a slight smirk still ghosting on her face, "I prefer people to think I am."
