The Owls and Columns are making her look like Athena to me.
From the fabrics of the dress and shawl, to the metal of the overlay, to the ridges of the columns, and the glowing mist effect,
It's truly impressive how many different textures there are making up the elements in the scene.

I was the one commissioning it.
The face was worked on very precisely, and is the most important feature indeed. All I wanted was there. There is depth, intelligence, self-awareness, and beauty / serenity and much more.
The posture also was important.
A lot more isn't shown but hinted in this picture, and I know I waited 3 years for Laura (the artist) to be free to do such a commission.Β

The details of her dress and armor are gorgeous, and the aura of mysticism and background add to their impact, but what really made me stop and stare was her expression--confidently powerful, benevolent but formidable. I get the sense of looking at a *person*, with a history, and thoughts running behind her eyes even as I watch. That's rare in *any* medium or genre; this is an exceptional piece.

This is indeed the look I wanted Elayne to convey (she is an archmage in AD&D world). The artist read the story of the character and managed to give it life to it. I haven't seen a single friend (who knows the character) saying that it wasn't "perfect" for Elayne.
