Description orange,
simply;

an impression,
a handful
of summer;

a year cut
into four quarters.

rotund angles,
juiced nodes,
thin skin stuck in teeth.

fertile cervix,
rind pores.
the birth of taste,
light beyond visibility.

memories,
mother's terse fingers
undressing the orange,
making it easy;

rolling cloth away
from a wound,
the warmth of careful touch.

sound of knife laid
on the countertop,
fingers sharp with scent,

flaring around the fruit,
accommodating,

shiny with the
clean invisible cling
of survival.

I know you don't need another comment in your inbox, but...wow. Fantastic. Like many have said, you got all this out of eating an orange? My god, what could you take out of something complex? I will have to take a deeper gaze into your gallery.

lol if this comes to you from eating an orange, your world must be overwhelming

"fertile cervix,
rind pores.
the birth of taste,
light beyond visibility."

I love the analogy in this. I saw 'cervix' and though "oh god, it's gunna turn sexual" but then the mention of the 'birth of taste' and the following stanza seemed really maternal.

Beautifully written and full of such sensory imagery. You've got a good skill there.

I suspect the poem-proper begins at 'mother' -- what comes before has some nice things but feels less imperative, though you might re-introduce the year-in-four-quarters trope somewhere into this later section.

Congrats on the DD.
