Don't worry. I'm glad to answer your question. You remind me of me five or six years ago.

I've never taken classes specially on drawing before. I had a person/a friend that came closest to being a mentor. He gave me tips, taught me some technique, and rate my drawings. No solid classes. It's all in the effort and heart. If you're motivated, you'll do fine. I considered myself good at drawing, though I'm pretty certain that everyone else disagreed. If you aim to be good, don't be impatient. Don't look at a piece of work and expect yourself to be that good tomorrow. Things will seem far at first, and you'll know deep down that most of your work won't be on par with good ones on the internet yet, BUT you'll also know that you can be better. Keep drawing, because there's no other quick route. It might seem that you need years to get as far as you want, but it could take as short as half a year or several months. Motivation and effort are pretty much everything.

Indeed it is. Definitely not for something kinky. If you rub tissue across the stroke direction, you'll be able to spread the carbon over the gaps between strokes.

Oh! So you do that for the skin to get an even tone? Then what about the hair? You shouldn't really use it on the hair, right? Because then maybe it'll like, look solid. I don't know, I've never done portraits before >_<" But I should think that!

When you do hair, you drag each strand individually. But the problem is, sometimes, it won't fill up and leave white gaps. So we can drag each strand individually, then blend a little first. Then you do it again, without blending. The first blending will be apparent between the strands you drag the second time, instead of just being white.
