Description                                               Freedom Fighters
                            Chapter Twenty-Three: Innocent Sheep

It was a month after General Redips had been assassinated and the soldiers had fled the city. The soldiers were very angry for the fact that General Redips had been killed and they tended to blame the red vixen a lot. They knew they couldn't let her hear them plotting against her, after all, she was brilliant, she was too intelligent for her age, but nonetheless she was that smart. But with the new general in command, Kain had now made a steady plan that would take time in order to execute. Veronica was afraid that the Freedom Fighters were going to meet their match by the way Kain continued to plan his strategy.

The Freedom Fighters had only rejoiced for a little while, not wanting to show weakness, just in case the soldiers had came back. The citizens had started to return to New York City, cheering for the fact that they had won the war. But the Freedom Fighters knew better than to act so blindly. Even though the soldiers had retreated, the teenagers knew that the soldiers were going to come back as an even stronger force. They gave an early curfew to the citizens, not wanting them to get hurt just in case the soldiers returned at night, trying to shoot through the city again. However the citizens only agreed to be inside their homes by twelve for the first couple of weeks, wanting to clean their neighborhoods first. The Freedom Fighters agreed and then let the citizens clean their neighborhoods.

In the Liberty Rouge's base...
A white vixen sighed of boredom and fatigue as she lied back into the couch she was sitting on. She propped her feet on the table in front of her as she looked over at a white female rabbit that was typing on the computer. "Any luck?" Tonya asked. Tamarind exhaled in frustration and then put a hand on her forehead and began to rub it. "The soldiers had to have wiped everything clean, because now they have nothing on the computer. I don't see any data or information anywhere. It's liked somebody covered their work up." Tamarind remarked. Tonya sat up in the couch and then looked over at Tamarind again, "It's more than likely because of Veronica. After all, she was the one who taught us about their files in the first place, now that she works for them, she could have some type of block over the files, making them hidden to the computer.” Tonya said. Tamarind continued working on the computer for a couple of more minutes sighed heavily. "Well, I found the work, I looked in a different place than where I thought it would be, but the problem is that there is an encryption over the data. I know nothing about encryptions, so I don't know how to break into it." she remarked. Jay's ears perked up and he turned towards the white rabbit.

He set his camera on the table and then walked slowly to the white rabbit. "I know something about encryptions. I used to hack into a website to look at movies for free." he said. The two females eyed him suspiciously as he only rubbed his head nervously. "I was big on movies back then and I used to do anything to look at them." he remarked. "Well go right ahead, I know nothing about encryptions, if you can crack through it, then go and do it." Tamarind stated and got up from the seat in front of the computer. Jay sat down and then began to type certain series of numbers and letters. The two females only eyed as him as the young orange fox continued to type a series of numbers. "I can't override the encryption that she has, I don't know how to crack this one, it's very difficult. So instead, I'm replacing the encryption with another one. That's a good thing, and a bad thing. The good thing is that I can crack my own encryption code and you can extract the data you need. Bad thing is that it won't be open no longer than forty-five seconds, since I'm replacing it, it's not fully cracked, so it will detect the false encryption and go into a shut down mode on the computer. Hopefully you can extract all of that data starting... now." Jay said and pressed enter.

He hopped out of the seat and then Tamarind quickly sat down at the seat. She quickly began to download the files onto a flash drive as her eyes quickly scanned the data. "Come on... come on..." she whispered as she began to hear a faint beeping noise. The beeping noise continued to increase its speed as Tamarind continued to extract the data onto the flash drive. Just as she finished and pulled the flash drive out of the USB port, the screen cut off and the computer began to shut itself down immediately. Tamarind looked over at Jay and gave him a thumbs up, "We got the data, that's all that counts, but now this computer is fried... So we need a new one." Tamarind remarked. "I think there is another one downstairs in the supply room." Steven said as he passed by the group. "Thanks, I'll go check." Jay said and then began to walk at the back of the base.

Jay silently continued to walk towards the back of the base, silently thinking to himself about when the war was going to truly end. He reached the stairs and began to go down the stairs slowly. He was currently deep in thought when he was taken out of his thoughts by voices. He heard them while reaching the bottom of the steps and he slowly walked towards the door next to the supply room. He saw a pink echidna getting closer to a black echidna as he tried to ease back towards the wall behind him. “Bruce… will you protect me?” the pink echidna asked. The black echidna only eased back towards the wall some more while the pink echidna began to rub against him. “Pamela, you know I would try to protect you, but I don’t want to take advantage of you. There’s a war going on out there… and I can’t do this. Pamela… I’m sorry, but this just can’t happen, not this way.” Bruce said seriously and walked away from the pink echidna.

Jay quickly hid behind a couple of boxes while Bruce left the generator room and passed by the hiding orange fox without realizing it. He walked swiftly up the stairs and towards the lobby. The orange fox slowly peeked out from behind the boxes and then eased out from behind them. He walked closer to the generator room and then heard low sniffles from inside. Jay moved silently towards the door, hearing the sobs get louder. As Jay eased the door open, he saw the pink echidna with her back against the wall with her face buried in her hands. ‘She’s crying…’ he thought sadly. Pamela noticed Jay walk in and wiped her eyes quickly, “Hi Jay…” she said, but she looked away from the orange fox; knowing it was too late to play it off now as if she wasn’t crying. “Don’t worry about Bruce… you know he’s doing the right thing.” Jay remarked. Pamela nodded, “Yeah I know. But I just want him to be by my side.” she replied. “Well I know you two can work something out, in the mean time, let’s try to find a way to fix this city. I’m sure that the soldiers won’t be back for a while, so we should clean up as much as we can.” he said. Pamela nodded again and then walked out of the room, “Right…” she said.

In the middle of the city…
A tan vixen with green eyes that was wearing a short-sleeve green shirt and blue jeans held onto a silver vulpine from her shoulder as they both began to walk slowly through the city. The silver fox hissed in pain as he closed his eyes and slumped lower. “Come on Kaleb, you have to hang in there. We have to make it to the downtown hospital.” the tan vixen said. She lifted him up some more and the silver fox looked at the tan vixen. “Listen Seath… I know you’re trying to help me, but you also need to find a way to find some cover. What if the soldiers start attacking again? I don’t know what happened recently, but the soldiers have seemed to retreat recently.” Kaleb remarked. The tan vixen continued walking slowly on the sidewalk while holding Kaleb up with one arm around her shoulder. The silver vulpine was injured badly. He was hit by two bullets and he could barely walk.

Seath suddenly saw a group of civilians heading over towards them, in the front of the group was a line of teenagers with weapons. Seath looked closer and noticed that they had on a pendant in the shape of an F. There was a white fox with brilliant green eyes in the front of the group. Along side him was a sand colored dog with yellow eyes. “Look Kaleb, we’ve been saved, they’re coming to help us.” Seath said. They continued walking towards the two teenagers and finally reached them. The white fox reached the tan vixen and then held up Kaleb for her. “We’ll take it from here, we’re here to clean up the city.” the white fox explained. Seath clasped her hands together for joy and sighed, “Thank goodness.” she replied. “How long have you two been wondering around freely?” a red fox asked. He had deep red eyes and he was beside a white vixen with the same color eyes.

“Well, we’ve been surviving on our own for months… It’s been a long ride basically… we haven’t seen others in awhile. Every time we both traveled to meet with any other fighters, the bases would either be abandoned or destroyed. But we heard recently that the Russians have been defeated, is that true?” Kaleb asked. The red vulpine shook his head, “I think we only scared them off for a little while. Long enough for us to regroup and try to gather weapons and better supplies. With them in here before, we couldn’t do that, but now, we can move around freely and get stuff as fast as we can. Also we can track down some more vehicles for the group safer than last time.” the red fox said. “I’m Seath, and this is Kaleb.” the tan fox introduced. The red fox held out his hand, “I’m Jim, and this is my team. We’re the Village Barriers.” he said. The two shook the red fox’s hands and then smiled. “Nice to meet another American.” Kaleb said. He hissed again and then the white fox held him up. “Come on, we’re going to take you back to the base.” he said. “Bradley and Angel, escort them both back to the base, the rest of the group will continue to look for supplies.” Jim said.

“Right, well then, let’s go.” Bradley said and then began to walk back. “It’s not far from here, just about two miles. That’s all.” the sand colored dog remarked. “Yeah, not that far.” the white fox replied. Seath began to wonder about the two of them and thought about what they were going to do for further shelter. “Ummm... Bradley? Is there any way we could probably like… join your group?” Seath asked. “Well of course, we take anyone we can. If you really need a place to stay, stay with us. We’ll also train you on this situation. Many people still don’t understand what’s going on, but we still try to help as much as possible.” Angel said. “Well that’s good to know.” Kaleb said. Then he began to cough as he held his wounds. “It hurts more than I gave it credit for.” the silver fox hissed. But he shook his head slowly as he tried to stand. “I’ll get through this, I just need to get medical help.” he said.

At the Village Barrier’s base…
Angel opened the front door as Bradley walked in with Kaleb on his shoulder. “Ok, hold tight Kaleb, I’m going to get our medic.” Bradley said and then walked away from the group. Kaleb stood upright on his own as he looked around slowly. Soon a red vixen with orange hair and dark brown hair walked into the room. She was wearing a cream colored shirt with a red skirt. “Don’t worry, I should be able to patch you up in no time. You’re just going to have to lie down and hold still.” the vixen said. Kaleb looked the vixen down as he lied onto the couch. “Nice outfit, skirt should be a little shorter though.” he said. The red vixen blushed as he looked over at the tan vixen. “Is he always this friendly?” she asked. The tan vixen laughed nervously, “I think it’s the morphine.” she said in an unsure tone. “Yeah, let’s just pass it off as that.” the red vixen said. “I’m Christine Laura by the way.” she introduced. “Seath Bakker.” the tan vixen replied. “Kaleb Reed.” the silver vulpine replied.

“I take it you guys will be staying here for awhile now.” she said. The tan vixen moved her hair to the side as she looked around, “Yeah, some actual shelter. It would be nice to actually sleep on a floor… instead of the street. We’ve been wondering around since the soldiers had blown up our apartment complex. I’m also looking for my grandma… I know she’s gotta be somewhere in this city. I don’t know what I’ll do without her.” she said, getting ready to cry. “Don’t worry, we’ll find your grandma, and we’ll fix this city up. I know we can free our own people, the second thing we’re trying to do is find out where the adult prisoners were held after the Russians had invaded.” Christine remarked. Kaleb hissed in pain as he grabbed for his leg, “Ouch!” he hissed. “Well I told you to stay still while I’m working, I’m not the best doctor, but I’ve been trained by my mom. I wish I was as good at her at medical stuff. But I’m not, so you’ll have to do with my amateur skills.” Christine said. “I’ll try to keep that in mind then.” Kaleb said and tried to remain still.

After half an hour, Kaleb slept peacefully in the lounge on the couch as Seath watched over him. Suddenly an orange vixen with brown hair and green eyes walked up to the two. “He’s sleeping huh?” the vixen asked softly. Seath sighed, “Yeah, knocked out by the medicine, Christine said he should be fine.” Seath remarked. “Well knowing the medicine she uses, he should be knocked out for the rest of the night. When he does wake up, he should be fine.” she said. “That’s good to know. He doesn’t need to be moving around anymore tonight anyway.” Seath said quickly. The orange vixen then got closer to the tan vixen and smiled mischievously, “Do you two have a thing going on?” she asked.

Seath blushed madly and began to twiddle her fingers, “No, we’re just… good friends; that’s all.” she answered quickly. Ok, if you say so. You just seem so… close to him.” the orange vixen said. The tan vixen was about to say something else, when a voice called out from across the hall. “Rachel, come on, I think we have something on the radio you need to check.” someone yelled across the hall. “Right, coming.” the orange vixen replied loudly. She turned back towards the tan vixen and smiled, “Welcome to the team Seath.” she said and walked away from her. The tan vixen looked down at the silver vulpine and smiled warmly, ‘Glad to be part of a team now. Where we can be safe.’ she thought.
