Description
The Orphapalp live on a world with a much denser atmosphere, and with such one can fly or float with much less effort than here on earth. This particular creature keeps himself aloft by gasping in great amounts of air creating his own currents which keep him suspended midair, and get him where he needs to go, earning them the nick-name "Aires" They feed much like a plant would sucking all that they would need out of the ground with their root like appendages. Then when there are no more or little nutrients left in the soil they simply up root and float away to new feeding grounds. As for a defense, the air current of a fully grown adult produces around its self is rather strong and is usually enough to keep predators at bay, and if the strange aura of air isn't enough to warn off some, a large air blast to the face will get the point across. Unfortunately this species is very rare and near extinction. If ever this creature was to stop breathing in the air and circulating its current, he would fall to the ground and be quite helpless.

Took a bit of thinking for this one but the idea of "a reason to breathe" really gave me something to shoot for. Interpretation is a marvelous thing! Welp this was created first as a sketch, then scanned and painted in photoshop pro 7 with my wacom tablet... I've been trying hard to do more backgroundish type things.. and try the more "painted" approach to coloring.. I'm still learning and experimenting, but I think I got quite a nice effect out of it all.. total time .. geesh like hours.. maybe like 4 or 5 but all in one day at least..
