There once was a legend of an angel that had descended from the heavens onto the land. Its presence should have been considered a blessing, but it was not. For the angel that had descended from the heavens was none other than a fallen angel. A reject that was despised by all from above.

The angel's once beautiful wings were torn off from his frail body along with the markings that symbolized his existence. Long, rigid scars took their place. As the angel fell towards the ground below him, he felt his identity fading away to the back of his mind.

"I won't forget..."

I was an angel.

I'd forget everything else, but I couldn't forget that. With the darkness finally taking ahold of my consciousness, I drifted off into the realm of dreams.

~~~
"Uurrgh..." A soft groan escaped from my throat. Awakening from a deep slumber, my senses were returning to me. My upper back and my shoulders felt like they were on fire.
I yelled out in agony, gripping my upset stomach. The pain surging through my body was the only thing on my mind and I curled up onto the hard, cold ground hoping for the pain to subside. After a long moment of suffering, the intense burning began to slowly dissipate throughout my back. My chest ached and I groggily opened my eyes to see my surroundings.
"Where... Am I..?" After the majority of the pain had left, I could finally feel the pulsing headache that remained in the depths of my skull. Scanning my environment, I saw bright colors.
It was morning with the sky above me a clear blue accompanied by pure white and fluffy clouds decorating the empty canvas above. All around me were plants, long sprouting stems that were a shade of the healthiest of greens. On every stem were bundles of plump red... Objects.
"What are these..?" Curiously reaching for one of the bundles, I plucked one off of the nearest stem and hesitatingly sniffed it. It didn't have a scent. I was about to put it back, but then an instinct controlled my actions and I greedily took a bite. Warm fluids burst out of the fruit into my mouth and I cringed in awe. It was heavenly.
Grabbing more from all of the plants around me, I hungrily ate. A dark shadow casted above my hunched over figure, but I was too busy eating to realize it.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" A deep and husky voice roared. Frightened, I yelped up and gathered as much of the strange red fruit around me as I could carry, and ran away from the shadow. "DON'T EVER COME BACK!" It screeched after me.
My legs ached and screamed out begging for me to stop, but I couldn't. I kept on running, ignoring their calls until I was far away from the field and the shadow.
Collapsing onto the dirt below me, I gasped trying to regain my breath. I finally had a moment to think. I was in the middle of a wide and open field, surrounded by nothing but dirt, grass, and a few bushes and small shrubs.
Examining the rags that I was clothed in, I took note of the peculiar style. It was a long white robe, but it was so torn that it just looked liked a rag that was hanging off from my scratched up frame. A wave of panic began to rise as I realized that I couldn't remember who I was.
I laid onto the ground, the grass poking and tickling my limbs. Taking in a long stream of air, I calmly sighed it all out.
"Are you okay?" I would be alright. Things could be much worse.
"Hey, are you listening to me?!" Everything would work out. I had some food and at least I wasn't completely naked.
"..." How do I even know all of these things anyway? Can't remember ever learning about-
"HEY, BASTARD! I'M TALKING TO YOU!" My attention was attracted to the small irritated voice that had pulled me back to reality.
A young boy was standing beside me, frustratedly fiddling with the hem of his shirt. He was fuming and glaring an irritated stare straight at me. His light brown hair reflected the sunlight as it danced in the pools of his eyes. They were just as bright and green as the plants I had seen earlier. A gust of wind delicately played with his hair and I noticed a lone curl floating in the air from his head.
"Are you just going to keep on staring at me?" The young boy uncomfortably fidgeted.
I continued to stare at him and his outfit. He was dressed up in a tiny black suit with red lace etching out intricate designs on his arms along with matching black gloves. A miniature red ribbon completed the ensemble, placed right in the middle of his chest underneath his neck.
"Oh, you're so cute!" I reached out and patted his head, but that just resulted in another angry glare and a slapped away hand.
"Shut up, bastard! I'm not cute!" His face heated up turning into a dark tint of crimson as he pouted and stomped his foot in annoyance. It was adorable. I looked through the pile of tomatoes I had in my possession and searched for the brightest and fattest one. Once I had found it, I held it up to him offering the delicious fruit.
The boy curiously looked at my dirt covered hand and spat. "Why would I want to eat just a tomato?" He crossed his arms and continued to pout with his eyebrows forming a crease on his forehead.
"A what..?" I didn't understand, but regretted asking it as he shot me a dumbfounded look.
"Are you that stupid? You're the one with the bunch of tomatoes, how do you not know what they are, idiot?"
"So these are called... Tomatoes..?" I grabbed another one and took a bite out of it, still offering the plump fruit to the boy. He huffed and snatched the tomato off from my hand.
"I don't get it, but I'll eat it, you tomato eating bastard." The little boy sat himself down next to me and began to nibble on the tomato. His face lit up as he started to eat more.
"You like it, huh?" I asked him.
He scoffed, but continued to eat. "It tastes like crap."
I laughed at this and he glanced over at me with an annoyed expression.
"What's your name, little one?" I asked him.
He paused with a stern glare. I wonder what he was thinking about. "...What's yours, bastard?" He eyed my face, watching for a reaction. I didn't know how to make an excuse for a question like that, so I answered honestly.
"I... I don't know what my name is actually." I cheerfully smiled to reassure him that everything was alright. A pitiful look shone on his face as he mumbled into his tomato.
"Lovino." He averted his gaze away from me.
"Lovino?" I tilted my head to the side as the name rolled out past my lips. It felt smooth against my tongue and I enjoyed saying it. "That's really cute. Heh, little Lovi.~"
The boy's face flushed and burst into a steaming flame. "Don't ever call me that again, bastard!" The kid had a foul mouth, but that didn't make him any less cute than he already was.
"You look just like a tomato!" I chuckled gleefully not noticing the furious glare of the little boy beside me. In the next second he had gotten up and thrust himself forward, head butting me straight on my stomach.
Yelping out, I clutched my torso. Lovino got up and started snickering down at me.
"Go to hell, you bastard!" His irritation showed clearly on his twisted face and blossomed when he saw that I was on the ground laughing. "S-shut up! What are you laughing at, bastard?!"
"S-sorry, Lovi... Y-you're just so c-cute..!" I was laughing so hard that I was gasping for air. Lovino was enraged. He had started punching me in an attempt to shut me up, but it only made me laugh harder.
"Dammit! I hate you, you tomato eating bastard!" He continued to throw his fury of punches while yelling all kinds of insults until I sat up, propping myself up with my arms and trying to hold in my laughs.
He grimaced and talked in a very annoyed voice. "Since you don't have a name, I'll give you one." He stood there pondering about what name would work. "I know! Your name is TomatoBastard."
"E-eh..?" I looked at him in disbelief. I had to come up with a name and fast or risk being called a tomato bastard for the rest of my life. "W-wait, Lovi-" he shot me a glare. "I mean Lovino. How about something else..?"
I let out a nervous chuckle. I started searching through my mind for a name that might work and almost instantly, a name did appear. Clear as day, I knew that that was the name I wanted.
"How about... Antonio?" I didn't know why, but it just seemed right.
Lovino grunted and started to pout again. "It's stupid. TomatoBastard is much better."
I gave him a smile and he loosened up a bit. "F-fine. If that's your name then I'll call you Toni, or tomato bastard, or just bastard. Let's see if you like how it feels, you bastard!"
All of a sudden, Lovino froze in place and gawked at me. He was staring straight at my shoulders and I turned my head, trying to see what was so interesting. From what I could see, my ripped robe was carelessly tossed over my shoulder, sullied with dirt.
"It's my clothes, isn't it?" I asked him.
He took a few seconds to respond, his face scrunching up deep in thought. "Y-yeah... Your clothes..." From the way he had said it, it felt like that wasn't it at all.
"I'll bring you some tomorrow."
I sat there, staring in astonishment. "What did you say?"
He grumbled at my baffled expression and huffed. "Didn't you hear me, idiot? I said that I'll bring you something to wear tomorrow."
I beamed at him. "That's so nice! Thank you, Lovi!" He disapprovingly shook his head and irritatingly punched me. His punch was much softer than the previous ones though.
I felt really happy that he was being nice to me, but I was quite confused. His face had a look that I couldn't read. It was something along the lines of pity, but something else was there as well. Something that he was too afraid to tell me.
Lovino had once again pulled me out from my trance. "I'm going to go back home. Don't die, okay bastard?"
I gave him a smile. "Aww, is little Lovi worrying about me? That's so cu-"
"Don't even, bastard." With a final glare, he turned around and began to walk away.
I was left with even more questions than when I had started. Who was I and how did I end up in the middle of a tomato field? Also what are tomatoes? How are they so delicious?
Most of my questions at the moment actually had to do more with tomatoes than with myself, but I think it's better off like that. It looked like I would have to stay here until he came back tomorrow. Lovino seemed like a nice enough kid, he just didn't know how to show it.
The sun wasn't high up in the sky like it was before. It was beginning to set, a rippling effect of gentle red and orange washing away the glistening blue. The sight was radiant and I hummed out a peaceful sigh.
Lovino's stare had bothered me. It was hanging in my mind like a plague. Even in the midst of this luminous sunset, his gaze was staring back at me refusing to leave.
Reluctance gained control over my hand as I tried to touch my shoulders. I paused, skeptical of the idea. Eventually gaining enough confidence, I touched my shoulders.
I cringed.
They felt rough, nothing like the rest of my skin. Slowly peering over to where the dirtied white cloth lay, I saw the bare skin of my shoulder through one of the ripped openings in the fabric. A hint of a large scar appeared through the rip.
A silent gasp escaped from my lips as I took off the robe, staring back and forth at my shoulders. I froze in horror at the matching thick, dark scars decorating them.
It was more of a design than a scar. One very similar to the red laced designs on Lovino's suit. I couldn't tell for sure, but I was confident that the scars continued from my shoulders onto my back.
With a moment of realization, my own voice echoed throughout my thoughts. In that instant I couldn't hear the soft winds blowing, the little animals that were rustling in the nearby bushes, or the crickets beginning to sing their songs. I only heard myself, my heart rapidly beating and reacting like a separate entity, to the familiar words.
I was an angel.
