Description
I am EXTREMELY proud of this one... The amount of attention i payed to every detail and nuance really payed off, but yet the time it took was driving me INSANE!
I will be taking a short break from drawing ebil, demented monsters with too much detail bent on eating everyone's brains...
I really would appreciate constructive feedback on this one, guys! please let me know your thoughts such as: Does the excessive detail take away from the pic? Does it need a background? Should i have made the shadows darker? Is there too much slobber? etc...
Enjoy!
EDIT: Thanks so much for the Daily Dev everybody! It really made my day

Drawing time: about two months from lineart to final product...

First of all: The picture is really great, kickass, awsome whatever you want Choose the highest compliment
But because you wanted advanced critique here it is: I think the slobber at the upper jaw is a bit too much and the tongue is a bit strange formed :S
But that doesnt change anything: THIS PIC iS GREAT !!

While the detail on this is fucking gr8 I think that the perspective is flawed. The upper part of the head is from side profile and the lower jaw part is pictured from a much higher perspective. It makes it look as if the jaw was dislocated. I don't mean to be a dick but that's how it looks to me.

My gosh.. This is.. Spectacular. I envy your attention to detail. i dopn't think you went over the top at all. The shadowing is perfect, and I think a background would be.. Too much, whereas the balck contrast everything brilliantly. I love the detail on the eye...
And there's just the right amount of slober.

Without a background, I think it looks almost as if it is intended as a (very awesome) desktop wallpaper.
Something very subtle would make it more of a composition, just some hints of flora or landscape, even very far and pushed back.
The level of detail, especially in the slobber is superb!

Thanks for the comment ^^. I didn't intend to make it a wallpaper... I just thought that any other detail would take away from the focus of the drawing... And after doing so much detail I needed a break from drawing XD

First Id like to say, if ever I met this thing, I would would wet myself, fall over, and die XD
I think the detail you put into it is absolutely fantastical. That slobber is great! I think his lower jaw is a bit big, kinda like it would snap and fall off, leaving his prey very very confused. But you know, all the better to eat you with my dear! I havent exactly studied dino anatomy XD Also, I feel like there should be something in the other corner. Personally I picture a tub of butter, so naturally hed be saying "I cant believe its not butter!" But Im strange and all that... The shadows really give it great depth too! Almost like it would pop out and eat me.
you should be proud! This is an awesome piece of work and you have some crazy talent!

Amazing work! I love all those details and I don't think they steal the focus away from the picture. In my opinion they are the thing which make this picture so awesome!
That's why black background is the best choice: It lets the head with all its details shine.

Well, I know this is not what you want to hear, but yes, the detail takes away from the focus. While it surely is interesting to see something so well-defined, and let your eyes run all over those textures, run is all what they do. You don't have something to intuitively focus on. Sure, the open mouth, teeth and drool somewhat make up for that
So, in lesser words: I find pictures that are well-defined only in their points of interest better than those with realistic detail all over. The impact is stronger and more complex. BUT I also appreciate the skill that went into this, and all things in part are really nice. Just not all of them together.
The lack of background is good.
I also find it funny how some of the scales (the most shiny ones - did you use the "plastic wrap" filter?) look VERY realistic and 3D, yet the tongue makes me think "comics". But then again, I'm no expert in how realistic dinosaur tongues should look like.
(sorry for the scattered ideas, it's 1 am here, I'm very tired, and still haven't finished my job for today )

First of all, This is EXACTLY what i want to hear! You are the first person who has given me real in-depth constructive feedback on one of my pieces, so for that i thank you .
Yes, the scales are very tedious (no, i did not use plastic wrap, just plain ol' brushes). And i know what you mean with the tongue thing, but i tried conventional tongues on him, and the effect just didn't promote the "I am big scaly monstar come tah eat you up!" feeling i wanted for the piece.
Thanks so much for the critique! ^^
