Recently, I got my hands on a real tre!asure: A Piece of bog oak, confirmed dating 10th century AD. It was the base of an old foundation post of a building without any working marks. It had been documenteid in situ, photographed, drawn and sampled for dendro-dating, and would have been thrown away - so, for the record: no scientific data was lost!Since I'm not a carpenter or cabinet-maker, I decided to keep the skill-level very basic, in order to keep potential failures to a minimum. The ideal solution seemed to be a rack for my katana - japanese design is very elegant, but simple; and the katana as an object and as a symbol would both appreciate and emphazise the precious wood.
So, here is the basic idea of the overall-design
