Description
Here a short comic describing a scene of the story (somewhere in Chapter 16, yeah, kind of a spoiler probably).
It might feel a bit too gruesome and depressing, but I'm sure that real history has seen much worse.
Although the story is set in a fictional world, it resembles the procedure of a Roman crucifixion (scourging, position of the cross and some other details).
Here, prisoners to be executed are traditionally branded on their face, forehead or chest with the mark of their guilt. A number of other symbolic tortures might be also added.
