So! I don’t usually do art for fanfiction unless it’s my own, but here’s my exception. Of the River and the Sea by AlleyCat4eva is something I stumbled upon by accident while pretending to be doing something else.
OTRATS is one of those fics that ruins books for me because, like a fool, I pay real life money to purchase books on a regular basis - this fanfic is better than a number of books I’ve bought and it cost me nothing but several (and then some) hours of my life and some sneaking around at work to read between customers.
This is the kind of story that inspires me to try and become a better writer and in the same breath fills me with an unreasonable amount of jealousy because of how good it is. The plot is interesting, the characters are spot on and the protag is not only wonderfully written but beautifully broken too. Ryuishi has flaws, she fucks up, she struggles and tries and tries to fix everything - not for herself, but for the ones she cares about.
It takes an awful lot for me to become invested in other peoples OC’s, but holy shit am I in deep with this lady. So here, my interpretation of Watanabe Ryuishi from Of the River and the Sea, a wonderful piece of writing I hope to some day equal. Thanks Alleycat4eva for taking the time and effort to write it, and for giving me an unquenchable thirst for Momochi Zabuza which was non-existent before finding this cracking piece of fanfiction!
