Description This is the other big part of my O Gauge collection-- my many streamliners! I don't think I've shown all of these on dA before since some of them are sorta new (from March I think), but here we go! I'll break this down from back to front and left to right.

Row 1: My Railking Pioneer Zephyr. A nice-looking set that runs well with Protosounds 1.
Row 2: My Lionel 1600-series articulated coaches, the ones that are held together by jury-rigged Lego pins (which I still consider to be one of my most ingenious mechanical engineering fixes!). To the right, my restored Lionel 264e and the tender I put together for it.
Row 3: My MTH Lionel Corp Blue Streak again, because I couldn't bear to take it off the track.
Row 4: My American Flyer Green Diamond set, this is probably the only item in my collection that is actually somewhat rare, it took several years for me to find one I was willing and able to buy and even then there was some luck involved in finding one on a slow week of the Bay.
Row 5: My Lionel 616-617-618 Flying Yankee set, it's a junker set that I patched up. One of these days I'm going to strip the whole thing down and redo all the chrome plating, but I haven't figured out how best to do that.
Row 6: Marx M10000 set, early with an illuminated tail car. Bought this set from a local collector, the observation car was a SOB to get working 'cause the wiring was all crunked and the car tabs together in a nasty unpleasant way. It is a nice set though, runs well on wide-radius track.
Row 7: Marx M10005 set, well, pieces from two sets. I got these for free with a log loader I bought at the last show I went to in March. One of these days I'm going to tear down the set and repaint it, once I figure out what color I want it to be.
Row 8: My American Flyer Zephyr set. Still looking for the rest of the cars to finish the set, they aren't rare but I want ones that are in the same condition as mine (i.e. kinda crappy and scratched up, I hate buying nice cars to go with a rough set!).

I love streamliners, I really do. I love the whole idea of art in motion, a train that looks good and goes really fast. My plan for the really long term is to own one of every streamliner locomotive made in O Gauge. I figure I'll keep myself busy for a few decades with that!

Those articulated cars are absolutely beautiful! Lego pins? I want details...

Basically, the vestibule end of the car has a round hole with a 1/8" channel cut out to the edge of the car floor (it's kind of "C=" shaped). I have fitted a Technic axle with a bushing at the bottom into the floor of the facing car. Tip the axle forwards, lift the following car and slot the axle through the mounting hole... the axle is big enough that it won't slip out through the channel.

The next time I have the set out, I will take some pictures to explain it.

Oh, now that's innovative! Is it one of the '+' axles or a pin?

It's a "+" axle. A minifig-sized pin would be too small.

Ah! Seems to work quite well.

I'm happy to hear you appreciate them. It's a shame that I have to take a couple hours out of an afternoon just to set them all up like this. When I get the space, I'm going to put my collection up on the walls so I can look at them whenever I want to.
