Description I bought these a month or two ago from a nice guy who was very much a "car guy" (he had half a dozen old cars in two garages!) and was into trains on the side. He told me to give him anything for them and I made a rather meager offer of every dollar I had on me, which was quite happily accepted.

The main points of interest from this purchase are:
A Lionel 816 Hopper Car. (I have already restored this one, there are images of it in my gallery.)
A Lionel prewar bridge in the original box. (This is currently on the layout.)
A Lionel 820 Searchlight Car in rough shape. (This is a project I am saving for the spring, as I can't exactly do paintwork right now.)
Two Lionel 600-series coaches and a 816 baggage car in rough shape. (Another project for the spring.)
A large Standard Gauge Lionel observation car in rough shape. (I am still considering exactly what to do with this. Even if I restore it, I can't run standard gauge!)

He called all this stuff "junk". But some of us know better!

Hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure right? Some people just don't know good stuff when they see it. (Although if they were charging $100 for it, it couldn't have been "junk" now could it?)

Ooh, a 226E! That's a nice engine there, I don't have one of those. I do have a 1666E that some nice folks in Connecticutt gave to me though.

So, it seems you're into the prewar too, huh? I'm big-time into streamliners-- Flying Yankee, Commodore Vanderbilt, Dreyfuss Hudson and the like-- and I focus on both prewar and modern models of them.

Yes
But its not just train sets for me
I'm a collector of all prewar objects worth collecting

All prewar objects, huh? That's a pretty broad range. That does apply to the cardinal rule-- "collect what you like".

What are some highlights of your collection then?

Well, let's see here. I gave him $15 for the coaches, $20 for the bridge, and $18 for everything else (including a couple of Marx cars now that I think of it). That's $53 in total.

It was a terrible pittance, and I told the guy I was offering him a pittance, but he didn't really care. He just wanted the rusty stuff out of his garage.
