Finally getting around to uploading the stuff I was working on right before Christmas when my pneumonia hit ( my actual Christmas pic will follow this upload very shortly XD )
This little sketch was drawn on a small piece of paper earlier in 2013 when DJ came down with flu, and was meant as just a little pick-me-up. I didn't get around to actually mailing it and the card it went inside until months later, though ( I am ze queen of procrastination XD ). I scanned it really quick before I mailed it off so I could have a copy to piddle around with, and just wanted to splash a little color on it before I posted it to liven it up.
Total lazy-man's color job, but it's fun to play around in Photoshop sometimes and see what kind of different looks you can come up with.

LOL yeah, I consider this my sloppy coloring job, lol. ^_^. It's just a really quick, single layer of cel-style shading.

LOL what I may end up doing is one of those classic 'sketch dump' type uploads for a lot of stuff that are just odds and ends that may never get finished. Anything salvageable I tend to re-work over time.

Such cute characters! I like this look with the sketchy lines and the "dirty" coloring. It looks neat. Man, I made some RR characters like forever ago. I wonder if I even have the designs around anywhere.

Thank you! And I'm quite happy with how much that texture effect added. Really changed it from just a quick 'meh' scribble into something interesting.

Oh man, they are so old. Like I haven't even looked at them since RR was on TV type old. I might have to go out to the storage shed to find old sketch books of them. Not sure if I remember that they even look like any more.

I'd be curious to know what dog breeds you chose, or what countries they represented, as that was half the fun of creating OCs for that fandom.

Well, they were created as villains and I used wild breeds instead of domestic. Though most of them weren't necessarily evil, just led by evil.
If I'm able to find the sketches, maybe I'll do some then and now pics or something.

Actually, that's really cool. It wasn't really common for people to create villains in the fandom. Sure, we had a lot of anti-hero and vigilante types, but I really can't think of any villain OCs off the top of my head. Even my own 'villain' OCs weren't so much villains as they were just opposing sides of an ideal.
Oh yes- if you do happen across them, a then and now type meme would be really neat!

Ah ha ha these characters go back to the 90s XD. Actually, I wonder if DJ's old website is still online with all his old fanfics. I yanked my fanfics down years ago, but I've been in the process of polishing them up and reposting them ( hard to believe I wrote the darned things almost 18 years ago. I'm so oooooollllllddddddddd :faints:

Ohhh pfff... this is just a scribbled mess O_o
And I think you do some great sketchwork and color. I've been drawing since I was about 4 years old ( until his briefcase was stolen, my dad used to carry around an old steno pad I did several drawings in for him when I was about 4 ), so at my current age, that's about 28 years of drawing, plus a good 3 years in college focusing on animation and life/human figure drawing- so what I'm saying is, it has developed over a lot of years. I can pull out artwork from years ago that I thought was totally great at the time, but I look at now and I'm like, 'eessh. Thank goodness I improved!'
I'm sure you've heard it a million times, but it's all just practice, practice, practice. Over and over again. Try to sketch a little bit every day and year by year, you will see your skills sharpen. Definitely pull out artwork you did just a couple of years ago, and I'm sure you'll see an improvement between what you did then and what you are able to do now ^^
