Originally started this near the end of October -- had received some very disappointing news and was depressed for two weeks. I drew this the evening I got the news and sort of just went from there.Initially I was going to draw Rydia in a graveyard, as I imagined her paying respects to her fallen mother, but since I have neither the patience nor the skill for a background, I decided to just use a textured background instead. I may go back to this and add the background. Who knows!
Started this in Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet, finished it with a Intuos4 tablet. Approximately 15 hours.

This is lovely! You keep getting better and better! Even without a fully illustrated background this works, you chose a nice color. I think a shadow might look nice underneath her to help her settle into it, but it doesn't need it!

I'm actually working on a background for this at the moment! I'm kind of apprehensive about how it'll turn out as I've never really tried making a background in Photoshop, but heck, it's worth a try!
Also, yes, we received good news during the first week of the New Year -- my husband got a promotion at work, which is what we were hoping for back in October! So we're very happy right now. Thank you for asking!

Backgrounds are hard! At least for me, but I got more comfortable doing exactly what you're doing, just start adding them, they'll become a little more natural as you go on :>
