Description
The central piece of this "river shot" is one of the "icons" of London; Tower Bridge.. with the old docklands of Bermondsey on the south bank (left) and the Tower of London on the north bank (right)... Also in the shot are the "shard" - the very tall "glass spire" on the left and the London Assembly building in front of the Shard - although about a mile (1.3km) distant... and on the right is a building known locally as the "mobile phone / walkie talkie" (which has a chequered history due to its "parabolic frontage" which has (before retrofitting of a screen) caused huge sunlight reflection onto parked vehicles etc..
I was born in London (Greenwich) and have visited the Tower Bridge area many times - but never by boat!!
I like the Assembly building - but really cannot understand the city planners approving the Shard or the Mobile Phone buildings - and there are many other buildings (see later shots) that tend to "ruin" the skyline and feel of the city - home to St Pauls as well as the Tower and Buckingham Palace.... Progress? Me thinks not!!!
