Description
Edit: I edited this a bit-- amped up the contrast a little more, smoothed out the sky, etc.
This is my finished entry for =Creslind 's contest. The theme was freedom.
This picture also doubles as a little bit of Hunger Games fanart. I recently read the entire trilogy (since you can't just read one of those books!) and it was incredibly inspiring! Especially for this contest-- the book has a lot to do with freedom, and really helped me to think about what freedom is.
Freedom isn't always rainbows and sunshine. In order for freedom to exist in the first place, there must be something you are free from. Oppression. Death. Sadness.
Whether it's lives or hard work, freedom always comes for a price-- something that those of us who are free need to remember. Many of us take it for granted.
In the picture, the bird is trying to escape, trying to be free from the flames that are dragging it down. Will it make it? Is it strong enough?
That's for you to decide.

Hah, on fire. It's hard to not use fire symbolically when it comes to the Hunger Games...
I love the way this shows it struggling to escape. It matches the theme perfectly, though on a darker note--fighting for your freedom.

This is almost like the classic Amercian Bald Eagle with a tear in his eye.......to me, this could symbolize the rebirth of Panem being America......and once again even hundreds of years in the future we still fight for our freedom....this is really amazing and inspiring....Freedom for Panem!!!!

This came out amazing!! It's very fitting for The Hunger Games (love that series too! Up to the last one!), the lighting from the fire works great with the suttleness of the other colors ^^

Very well done; I like how you incorporated the flames from the first book.
The part that bothers me... Mockingjay's aren't blue.

Thank you!
The picture as a whole just worked better when the mockingjay was blue instead of black. It was more of a contrast thing than anything, but I was kind of inspired by the blue on the cover of Mockingjay, as well... and since this picture basically signifies a lot of the struggle in Mockingjay I figured that, since the blue Mockingjay was the last in the "evolution," it would work well to signify the events in the book. I just decided to take a little artistic liberty! ;)
Thank you for your comment!

I bet; the more I look at it, the black would have probably made it a bit too dark, eh?
I saw that you decided to use the blue due to the book cover; it's a good reason, and I suppose if you think about it, maybe it is possible that there are blues ones; I mean, the Mockingbirds WERE crossed with Blue Jays after all.

Maybe! Probably not this color of blue, but that's okay. ;D
On a side note, I REALLY love the cover art for all three of the books! Especially the way the Mockingjay breaks out of the circle as the books progress. It's a really neat concept and all three are really well done! C:

I wouldn't even know where to begin with writing a short story for this, but if I did it would probably have an Aesop's Fable-ish feel to it. :D

Well, I decided to take some artistic liberties with this one. C: The blue worked out better with the overall color scheme, and was similar to the blue on the cover of Mockingjay.
