So here's a popup tutorial requested by my dear , who really needed help with wings.
It's a very simple way to understand the structure of wings. Please tell me if you don't understand something!
I truly hope this helps! And sorry if it is messy, it's one of my first tutorials made with photoshop
Enjoy!

I can never read this without cracking up. Lieutenant C.Y. Tinywings!
And yes, I actually do use this tutorial to help me with my wings Although I've got to the point where I know roughly how everything goes from a typical fully extended dorsal/ventral view, other angles and poses still get me. Particularly when it comes to the alula, tertials and axillars. Those drive me crazy!Β

Ohoho YESS
And my, I'm so happy this can still help! It's so old OMG XD
And you're right, some angles of the wings are particularly tricky D8

How do you get a perfect looking paper pic on DA without like the access stuff or shadows? (like the floor and everyday things in a home.) Im curious on how you do it.

I use a scanner
It's a machine built exactly to bring paper drawings onto the computer. It takes a picture of the paper in high resolution and sends it to the pc, like a very precise camera

Then you can get a cheaper one if you want^^
It doesn't have to be the most expensive paper, any paper will do really^^

I have a question if you don't mind me asking. How do you draw w/ the wings folded? Sorry if Im bothering you. It's just that it keeps on bothering me. I can't seem to draw w/ wings folded...

ARVEN92 In reply to cloudwolfanime [2013-06-07 20:01:18 +0000 UTC]
Sure thing
You're right about it, I didn't explain it at all in the tutorial, so I made a quick tutorial on the spot^^ [link]
I drew the wing of a bird and a human arm flanked so you can see how similar they are despite everything
This way, when you're in doubt about how the wing exactly folds, just observe your arm, because it folds in the exact same way
On how to add the feathers, refer to my tutorial: see how birds have three layers of feathers? When drawing the wing folded, you can dispose these three layers according to the tut I sent you^^
I really hope I helped you! 8D

As for backgrounds, I'm not really that good at them, I've still got a lot to learn myself

One thing! One thing! The secondary feathers have a curved tip, not a pointy tip, and the curve heads towards the body. Other than that, it's good
