Description
Next equine elegance! This is now my quickest piece. Four hours. I started sketching in church and finished Sunday night! Then I had scanner issues and no internet connection, so you couldn't see it then.I don't think it's my best so far, unfortunately. I've already sprayed it with fixative, but I might actually do some more defining on it. The back leg is really bugging me but I can't pinpoint what's wrong.
By the way, the reference photo was super grainy. That's the biggest reason for the lack of detail, in case you were curious. But i love the pose and I love how the feathering on the front feet came out. And the paint coat was actually pretty fun to do!
Obviously, I am immensely enjoying creating these pieces! They are great practice, especially from a different and more challenging viewpoint. It is also rather fun going back to just pencil and creating a 3-D looking image without any color. If you have a picture you think would fit well in this series, send me a link!
If you're interested in purchasing this, I'll sell it cheaper than my other pieces. The reason is that the fixative left some splattering on the image. It's not horrible, not really. But it kinda bugs me. But I didn't touch any of that up before uploading this (even though it's low-res). Just note me for more details.

Not at all. It was referenced from a photograph I found through a Google search. I'd love to see your finished product, though!

This is just gorgeous! Vanners are my favorite breed of horses, and they just don't get enough love! I love his swirling tail--beautiful job!

Thank you! I love the vanners too. I wish the reference photo had been a better quality; I could have gotten a lot more detail in there. Oh, well!

Thank you! I did have a ref, though. Small-res and grainy, hence the haziness of this piece. I am happy you like it though!

hmm... it is really elegance - and an amazing pose
I just think that there could be a little more detail on the head and chest - I think you put all your attention on they colour changed and maybe a bit forgot?..
but your work is so light and filled with swift ellegance with wavy mane and so gorgeous legs!!
wonderful work! and so quickly finished

It definitely could use more detail. The problem was using a grainy, low-quality photo. (I just loved the pose too much!) I do love how the hair came out in this. I think I want to do more gypsy vanners! I'll probably go in search of better-quality reference photos.

aahh so if it was all about the pose you matched it perfectly
gypsys are really tricky when it comes to drawing them (tried once and I have a little-little experience ) and you really managed to get it great
then to next time

That is one major shortage in our world today. I sure wish I had more of it.
Darn bills. If it weren't for them, we could work less, spend more time doing what we want. But then, we wouldn't have money to buy anything to do what we want . . .

Great piece, and although I'm not nearly as familiar with horse anatomy it seems as though the angle of that leg and the positioning of the hoof seem a little off, as though the hoof should be a little more splayed to the left to match the way the leg is angled.
Still gorgeous

Thank you! And thanks for the tips. That could very well be true, but it's too late to do anything about it now. It's hard to draw from grainy photos, I've decided.

Dark-Memory [2009-01-01 17:40:54 +0000 UTC]
Absolutely gorgeous. On that back leg it looks like the thigh is lovely and defined but you kinda forgot about the lower part. Maybe define her hock a lil and since it looks so thin, it looks like it should be farther back. So you could maybe fix it by making the hoof a lil larger and adding more feathering. Just a thought..

Aryenne In reply to Dark-Memory [2009-01-01 18:44:40 +0000 UTC]
I can't add more feathering, since I sprayed with fixative. I can't erase anything, but I'm gonna touch that leg up and reupload it. Thanks for the tips!

From my experience it looks that the leg is way too bowed out above the hock. Oh dear is the correct term? It's been so long....

Aryenne In reply to cityoffog [2009-01-01 18:45:29 +0000 UTC]
I have no idea if that's the correct term! But thanks for the advice.
