Description So I've been cleaning out messages. I was over 11,000 last month. Now I'm less than 6,000. I saw a whole bunch of these and thought it would be fun to do. It's harder to figure out the things that have influenced me than I thought.

1: My life
My life, circumstances, emotions. The people and animals in my life and the beautiful natural elements around me. Every piece of art I create has a piece of me within it. (Yes, that's a picture of me.)

2: ~Losmios
I know she's inspired many, many equine artists. I'm no exception. Her dynamic equines and beautiful landscapes are just enchanting. I've been following her for many long years since I stumbled across her on Elfwood and she's one of the reasons I decided to try out DeviantART.

3: ~QueenOfGoldfishes
She is another very talented equine artist who creates wonderfully dynamic and realistic equines. She is not as inclined to the small details as ~Losmios , but the broader lines she uses creates an amazing effect that doesn't detract from the realism.

4: "Silver Storm ” by ~wolfman007
Just because I listed one piece instead him as an artist, don't take that to mean this is his only good piece. He does incredible equines, most in an older-looking style. This piece in particular has been one of my all-time favorite equine paintings since I stumbled across it years and years ago. If it was available as a print, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it. It's a stunning piece by an incredible artist. Be sure to check him out.

5: Wheel of Time
By Robert Jordan. I've not yet finished the books he's written. I think I read through book eight and was enchanted with the world and the characters. It's not a top favorite series now in my life, but it was ten years ago.

6: *windfalcon
Windfalcon has an amazing gift in giving birds life on paper. She is one of the best avian artists I have ever encountered. She captures the life and beauty of these majestic and noble creatures and still spins a mystical air about them. Any bird-lover would love Brenda's work.

7: Jim Butcher
His book series are now among my top, all-time favorite books. Pictured here is Harry Dresden, a wizard living in modern-day Chicago. Butcher does an incredible job in making Dresden's world of witchcraft and wizardry as enchanting and enjoyable as J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter's world, yet realistic in a way that Rowling never achieved. His other series, the Codex Alera, is also thoroughly enjoyable and mesmerizing. Any fans of fantasy novels will enjoy the works of Jim Butcher.

8: Firekeeper
The Firekeeper series, or Wolf series, written by Jane Lindskold, is a unique twist on the idea of a child raised by wolves. Lindskold works with wolves through a rescue organization and her passion for and knowledge of those animals is clearly reflected in every aspect of the book, but especially in one of the main characters, a Royal Wolf named Blind Seer.

9: Boris Vallejo
Vallejo is an amazing artist of a level that few can match. His attention to detail and incredible realism in every piece is nothing short of astounding. While the scantily clad humans that typically dominate every piece aren't my favorite subject matter, no one can deny his anatomical knowledge and ability to tell a tale through his art is rivaled by few and envied by many.

10: *Tammara
Tammara is amazingly talented in painting subjects of all kinds. Animals to people to stunning landscapes, she has mastered it all. Her pieces are so finely detailed and intricately created that they often look like photographs. She has a great love for life and our world and it shows in her art.

11: ~SnowSkadi
I don't know much about ~SnowSkadi as a person (I assume the artist is female, but I don't actually know), but her work is stunning. She creates vast and dynamic worlds and amazing creatures. Her pieces stir the imagination and inspire ideas.

12: Dinotopia
Dinotopia, created by artist James Gurney, inspired my imagination when I found it probably 25 years ago. A world where dinosaurs and humans coexist . . . What's not to like? Gurney is an amazing artist with an incredible understanding of many extinct species and he depicts in detail. Dinotopia is a world that inspires the imagination. What a place it would be live!

13: Julie Bell
She often works with Boris Vallejo and is equally talented as him for many of the same reasons. She also did all of the cover art for Jane Lindskold's Firekeeper series, which is what initially drew my eye to those books.

14: ~alexandrabirchmore
She is another well-known equine artist. Her works have an almost abstract feel to them, yet still convey incredible movement and emotion. I love so many of her pieces, but the one pictured here is one of my all-time favorites of hers.

15: *AlectorFencer
*AlectorFencer is an amazing artist. Shocking, right? She gets into vivid detail in her pieces and she has an incredible gift for painting forest scenes. The first piece of hers I found was a unique griffin-like creature, and she was added to my watch list right away.

16: Timothy Zahn
He does not appear to have his own web address, but he is one of my all-time favorite authors of all time. In late middle school or early high school years, I began reading his Star Wars books (pictured here is a Star Wars character, a cookie for you if you can name him!). I haven't read any of those in probably a decade, but his other series are absolutely amazing. He recently wrote the Quadrail series, four books so far, which has been a lot of fun, and is now reviving one of his 1980's series, the Cobra Trilogy, and is now writing a second trilogy. (Second book comes out in paperback this year!)

17: *balaa
Many of you are familiar with *balaa and her remarkable animals. She paints a wide variety of animals and I've enjoyed her works paying tribute to endangered species of the world.

18: ~DancesWithHorses
She wasn't just an amazing artist, but an amazing person. Sherece is still sorely missed. She is one of the first artists I admired who took an interest in me and my work. She gave me the confidence to work harder and to become a better artist and I can never thank her enough. She touched a great many lives in her time here and still continues to inspire and encourage.

I actually got to see James Gurney I person when he was in the museum next to the old BeachNut factory. Heck James Gurney added me to his circles on my Google+ page!

this is a very interesting meme, I've always found it fascinating to see what helped to create another persons creation, the bedrock you build upon, so to speak.

many of your influence are of people or things with which I am not familiar, which might explain why your art does not touch me very deeply...I like your art but we don't entirely operate off the same cultural symbolic language. We don't live exactly in the same universe in some sense.

anyhow, I find this very interesting, thanks for sharing it I have log wanted to do something like this, but it's alot of work and I haven't had the energy to do it yet. yours is very well thought out and well assembled.

I miss Dances too - she was an amazing person through and through in everything she did

And there are so many here I recognize. Vallejo is definately one of my top most favourite fantasy artists, I've got an art book by him lurking on my shelves - I'll even forgive him for insisting on putting scantily clad people in most of them - they're too magnificent to be marred even by that

Definitely true! I've been meaning to pick up some of Vallejo's books, but haven't managed it yet.

I'm glad I'm not the only the still misses her, too. I can only imagine what her family is still going through, even years later.

Absolutely Maybe you could see if the local/not so local library has some?

The one I've got is called 'fantasy art techniques'. It's great - sadly someone in the family managed to spill coffee or something on it so some pages are either ruined or glued together

Yeah...guess it's the one thing guaranteed in life though...

I usually don't comment, I know but I just wanted to give you an e-hug for mentioning ~DancesWithHorses . I didn't even do much with horses and she commented on everything and it always makes me tear up a little when I see how many people she's effected.

Anyway, sorry. XD; Just wanted to say that.
