It was late on a Thursday, and Pam sat in her car staring out the window watching the snowflakes trickle down like confetti. She had been waiting for at least five minutes now and the warmth of the heater was making her sleepy. Jim was already supposed to be out here but was running late. Pam turned down the radio to look at the phone that was glowing in her hand; it was a message from Jim,

'Get out and look to your right.'

She felt a huge grin stretch across her face and immediately opened the door with her mittens on. Stepping out she heard the crunch of snow beneath her feet and spun around quickly to find him standing there grinning just as much as her.

"Hey Beesley."

She was smiling so hard right now that all she could do was giggle, "Hey. It's really cold out here."

He nodded as he walked over to be closer to her.

"So what hijinks will we get into tonight?" The snowflakes kept coming down and he watched them lovingly fall onto her golden hair. Her smile wouldn't cease, and he was not in the business of changing that anytime soon.

"Halpert, seriously..."

His face got softer as he continued looking at her feeling as if he was in a daze. She walked right up to him and tugged on his coat lapel.

"We've gotta stop meeting like this." As she laughed his grin expired and his face became stronger and more serious.

"Okay look, I know we're supposed to just be hanging out but I've gotta know something, why did you go back?"

Pam's face sunk straight down, her eyes got wider and now she had to answer his questions. She had long been avoiding them since casino night and everyday after. After the events of Phyllis's wedding and her leaving with Roy, they had decided to hang out after work every other day. They both understood the importance of their friendship, but this was the only time they had.

"How did I know this was coming," she lifted her left hand to tuck the stray hair that kept falling in her face behind her ear.

"I just have to know. Nothing's felt completely the same and I've tried so desperately to keep it down but I can't. I'm sorry." His feet shuffled in the snow and he watched it clump over his black shoes. She was quiet, messing with her scarf tassels as if they were petals on a flower. Even though he felt a fear inside all that was displayed through his face was hurt. His frown fell a bit more, and she licked her lips in the anticipation of what was going to come out of her mouth.

"It's not that I didn't want to be with you. Things that night just didn't feel right, they didn't feel like that was the way they were supposed to go down. Everything just happened so fast. I told him that I had been ignoring him and was being unfair to him, which I was." She started to bite at her fingernails and felt a million things rushing to her lips but couldn't say it all.

Jim looked straight into her eyes that felt full of remorse and even though it was killing him, he pushed on, "I'm not sorry that I told you I loved you. The thing that I am sorry about is that I didn't do it sooner. I always felt our chemistry, and I knew you did too and I went for it. I took a gamble on the girl that I always wanted."

"Jim, I-..."

"Pam, there isn't another like you out there. I know this may seem uncomfortable and believe me, I'm sorry if it does but even after tonight if you say you can't see me again then I'll still feel the same way." He took a couple steps closer as he watched her warm breath linger in the air.

Pam shook her head and slipped backwards towards the curb, standing off the edge. For some reason his words resonated inside of her and she couldn’t help but smile even if the moment was inappropriate. Everytime he got close to her and especially when he was speaking the way he was it made her feel so warm inside that not even the cold could penetrate it. She lifted her scarf from her neck,

"I can't kiss you. I want to, but I can't," She pulled the scarf over her mouth, as she watched him smile.

"I know. I know." He didn't feel the cold either. The two just stood there underneath the light of the moon in the Dunder Mifflin parking lot trying to not to go mad for one another.

Pam felt it deep down, but wasn't ready for it. Jim was ready but knew it had to be right. He knew life had to take it's course. He felt her restraint but asked for a hug regardless, "Can I get one last hug?"

"Of course."

She walked straight up to him, the scarf fell from her face and as he held his arms out she fixed herself in between them. He wrapped his arms around her tight, and knew that even though he'd still see her this would be the last time he would feel her like this for awhile. He felt her chest heave against his, and felt her heartbeat pace as fast as his. He kissed her on the head as her face buried deeper into his shoulder.

As the snow continued to fall, he kept holding on.
