***EDIT***New-look tutorial, hopefully a lot easier to understand
**********
Here's part one of the tutorial! This part focuses on the head and face of the plushie, I hope it's clear enough for you, if it isnt, I'll have to do it with photos
Unless you want to make the pattern yourself you'll need these:
Patterns Part One
Patterns Part Two
If it's your first time, these stitches might help you:
Here!
When fully made, the plushie will stand at 12"-13" tall. Longer doll for MORE DETAILED CLOTHES!! 'Cause Ashie lubb the clothes
If you use this tutorial, please link back to me if you upload your plushie on the internet! And it'd be nice if you showed me too!!
I hope this is easy to understand! Just let me know if you get stuck and I'll try to help the best I can

Thank you for the tutorial! But I have 2 questions: which way is the chin sewed onto the face? The way that these small triangular pieces face each other? Or the other round? I tried booth and either the doll has the neck way backwards or too much chin
And the second, why arent the side pieces of the head and the chin not matching at the pattern? The width of the chin is about 1cm longer than the bigger end of the head side pieces.

Ah for the second step, which side are the side hair pieces facing compared to the chin if the 'bad' side is facing me.
I'm having a bit of trouble visualizing how it works.

I will use a type of fabric to explain this. Fur Fabric which side do you want to show? the Fur of course that is the good side, while the bad side is the other side without the fur.Β
:l I could be wrong. ( anxiety overload )Β

I've never made a plushie before and I'm getting ready to make my first one... is this a good one to start with? And I'm also wondering how you sew the head and body together?

You may be best starting off with simpler patterns so your not using up as much materials for your first try unless you have cheap materials you don't mind wasting or using for practice and trying stuff out

I made a couple plushies using your patterns! The pattern was super great in every way. I have never made anything so complicated before so it was fun and challenging for me. You can tell I had trouble with the right leg turning in one both of them, though I was able to make it less severe for the baseball player.
Thank you so much for the pattern!

Have you cut out all the pieces? Are you trying to do it WITH the tutorial, or are you just reading through the tutorial? It makes a lot more sense when you sew along with it.

Sewing along with the tutorial. I just can't see the picture clearly enough to see what I'm supposed to be sewing to where.

just finished my 1st head using iron-on transfers, but when i stuffed the head, they split! would a little dab of fabric glue fix the problem? and any tips on preventing it next time?
π: 0 β©: 1
AshFantastic In reply to ahopper84 [2012-05-02 18:00:23 +0000 UTC]
Aww, it's a common thing to happen.
I don't know about the glue... But...
To prevent it from happening again, either:
1. Be VERY careful when stuffin (still may rip )
2. Stuff first, then iron the transfer onto the already stuffed head (harder to do, but more effective).

Ah, I have a question. Keep in mind that I'm really relatively new to sewing, kind of (I've been studying some different stitches online and practiced them on felt for the past two weeks, in my spare time).
O.K., so which stitch were you using exactly? It kind of looks like a running stitch, from the pictures on steps eight; seven; six; and five, but those are suppose to be weak (and are shown from the inside of the soon-to-be plush head).
So, is it "Hidden stitch." I think it is, but I'm not sure. Again, I'm new to this and I'm sort of babbling and I'm sorry. I just want to make sure 'cause I plan to make a plush soon (hopefully).
Also, the hairstyle of the plush I'm going to be making is going to be different than what you supplied in the tutorial, so... Do I just make the pattern for the hair and then sew it on attempting to use the hidden stitch (I'm not bad at it, I just need a little more practice) on top of what you supplied?
I want to use fake fur like in that other tutorial/thing where you did a close up of some plushes (I liked the purple-haired one, or at least what I saw of him or her) , so is there anything I should know about fake fur?
I'm sorry for all the questions.

AshFantastic In reply to TheGirlInGlasses [2012-04-26 03:15:55 +0000 UTC]
I always use backstitch, it's the strongest stitch to use, as it imitates that of a sewing machine
It's not 'hidden stitch' but because it will be on the inside of the plushies head, stitches will be hidden if you take the time to do a neat backstitch!
Some people stitch the hair on, others use glue, it is up to you, but yes, what you said is a good way of doing it
Fake fur is awesome and brings new volume to plushies. There's not much that you need to know, just make sure you pay attention to which direction the fur is going before you cut out patterns.
Don't worry about it Glad to help! Have fun!!
