Hey Ash I'm new to making plushies and you're tutorials have been invaluable! I've made a button joined doll from your patterns (Kisshu from Tokyo Mew Mew) for a friend of mine. I'm just trying to make his hair now...but I'm rather confused by the tutorial above cause the pattern is different for the button joined doll. I've taken the back of the head pieces and sewed them together like in number 2. but after that from steps 4 I'm totally lost! :S Any advice? Help please?

How did you do the eye/eyebrows, and facial expressions? were they laminated pieces of paper? or somehow "printed" on there. I saw your tutorial about painting eyes, but the ones pictured here and the dolls you make are alot more sharp, and crisp. how did you do that?

I love this! I'm making my own plushie pattern right now and had no idea how to do the hair. I just have two questions:
1. Are you supposed to attatch the hair pieces to the head pieces, or replace the head pieces with the modified hair pieces?
2. How do you sew the fringe or bangs on without a seam showing?
Sorry I'm a total noob, but I really appreciate your time and help!

Glad you like
1. You sew thehair pieces to the head, like a wig
2. It depends what fabric you're using. I normally use fur so it doesn't show the stitches, but with something like felt, you'll have to use a glue-gun

Love this tutorial, along with all of the others! I just had a quick question: What would you recommend to do for the hair of a character that had really spiked bangs in the front, like Inuyasha or Naruto?

AshFantastic In reply to WickedDead [2012-05-03 17:04:14 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
I'd say use felt, or an equally stiff fabric, cut it out to shape and either sew or hot-glue it on

So wait, do you put on the hair before you put the head on the body?

I'd put the head on first.

Thank you
It's really up to you, whatever you prefer, loads of people use felt, some use wool, I use fake fur, you could use fleece too, anything, really.

They're made from iron-on transfers. Here's a tutorial:

Also, do you think a silky fabric would be okay to make hair out of? (I'm making a plushie of my character-self with purple hair~!)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AshFantastic In reply to Resa-chan [2011-01-13 20:48:54 +0000 UTC]
Erm, probably not unless you don't mind it fraying.
Ermmm, I actually don't know a way of making it finer Sorry I couldn't help!!

Resa-chan In reply to AshFantastic [2011-01-13 20:53:11 +0000 UTC]
Well, thanks anyway! ^^ I might try and get the silk like stuff to work, I might hem some of it a little. (How I'll figure that out without pulling my hair out, I don't know. xD)
Hmm, maybe I could just use the yarn without unraveling it and it would work.

eddyslilsis In reply to Resa-chan [2012-05-16 01:40:41 +0000 UTC]
Im sure youve already solved this problem but I had an idea. If you sew the silk together like you were going to stuff it but dont stuff it it may keep from fraying.
